NICE! ;)

I have the Cavalry version.
They're interesting guns ... but they are ungainly to load, IMO.

you got that right, it takes a special nack for sure . :) And I aint got it !
I do the best I can though , and it takes awhile loading 9 rounds ?
I find if ya hold the loading lever up close to the cylinder frame area it is less likely to bend and it feels liek your not tweakin on the thing so much too that way . Works for me I should say . :)
I need a Calvary Model , if ya got two , I will trade ya straight across for NIB to NIB ? Hmmmmm ?

I LOVE shootin the Shotgun , wow, what a blast , gun punn intended
:what:

Ummm , certainly not a retailer/wholesaler . Am a working Gunsmith , working on mine :)
I am stricktly JUNKIE ! Maybe just a little more than addicted ?
I sell no guns , I may trade from time to time, but I don't buy to sell any of them . I buy because I love all guns , I keep all of them too . I got a couple .

The cool thing about being a bp junkie is that when you "shoot-up" you don't get tracks, just major holes, and hopefully not in your self either!! Your LeMat's are good lookers, how are they for shooters? I've never seen a range report on one.

or two my butt BPH , I think we know better , hee hee hee . :)
Oh wait , me too ? :what:
No such thing as too many guns , just too little money . :)
My passion runs vary'd on guns anyway, I got equal parts modern too .
I was schooled in California , Susanville , my interest back then was 1911's and M-1 anything , AR anything , and Bolt Rifle/Lever action anything , no BP anything . In the last 20 or so years I have gotten into this thing pretty heavy and started workin on them too . And now I of course want to get into the single shot Pistols , I/E , Kentucky , Le Page, Kutcherueter stuff . Whole different animal there and am a novice at that . But I will master it too . Moe Money ! :)

They are deadly accurate , and mine , I have three , love real Goex BP the best . Go figure , works for me anyway, I try my hardest to shoot only the Holy Black , but some of my guns hate it .
These are some of the revolvers that out of the box point shoot with 25 grains when I first loaded them almsot spot on target with no adjustemnts . Pietta takes good care of quality on these , obviously. They are FINE weapons , not typical of Italian revolver repros . They are in there own class , accuracy wise too , they are truelly accurate , consistantly . The tollerences are extremely tight , no slop whatsoever .
If you get a chance to pick one up and hold it, you'll see what I mean . Better yet, try to shoot someones if you get a chance . Unfortuntely you'll HAVE to have your owne . Fare warning :)
I had to have three and I want more ! I ahd four and traded for my Tyron Pedersoli rifle .

Sorry, Das Jaeger, I only have one. Even when I bought it back in 1993 it was a tad expensive for me to think of getting it a brother ...

They had one at one of the Humbolt gunshows here a while back .I got to check it out,and I fell in love with the thing. The only reason I didn't buy it is that we were laid off once again. If I'd been working that stretch,it would've come home with me.

sorry about that , Lay-offs suck .
I notice DGW has the Navy still on sale for $725 ? Bargain.
I paid $795 for the first two , then the sale price , go figure for the second two . Impeccable timing , not :cuss:
I think the Calvary issue is the prettiest model , but has the most functional flaws to it . I like the Navy because you can reach the shot gun switch with your thumb . A one handed operation on that model .
Well , hopefully someday you'll get the chance . There kinda pricey but it was a very important part of the Civil War History , and pretty much a must have for any Confederate Arms collector .

Out of curiousity what would you consider the flaws of the cavalry model? Not arguing -- just interested in your opinions.

Das Jaeger
July 8, 2009, 11:20 PM
I would start with the first and most complained about , the barrel lever latch .
Very week design compaired to the knurled locking knob of the other two models , the Navy and Army have the knob pin and lock system , Calvary nope .
Then the fact that you have to use two hands basically to drop the hammer nose striker to shoot the shotgun barrel .
Thats all , those are the only two issues I hear complaints about.
Needless to say the Navy was last and best designed , took care of both those problems quite nicely .

Oh, and I didn't think you were argueing anyway , never entered my mind .

You can get the Cavalry model trigger gurads for the Navy, but they are out currently , and God Knows when they will ever have any or if ever ?

Das Jaeger , and don't get me wrong I would buy the Cavalry model in one second too , just prefer the Navy is all .

I wish they'd make a copy of the Baby Lemat..38 or .32 over .410. I misremember the original chambering ,but I think that's close.

Das Jaeger
July 9, 2009, 09:50 AM
I would like to have one of those too , or a new Repro in .38 over 410 ga. , or maybe .32 on a much samller lighter platform.
None of that we'll ever see , the market isn't there to justify a production run .
I could make one , but I won't , hee hee hee .
It wouldn't be out of the realm of possiblities to sleeve the barrel and cylinder though to a .38 ? Which I have no time to do either , hee hee hee.
Now if I was rich and retired , maybe . Would be cool huh .

Out of curiousity what would you consider the flaws of the cavalry model?

The barrel/frame latch on the Calvary model can drop down on some of them. Mine is still tight after several hundred rounds. I think it was more of a problem on older models.

The hammer nose takes some getting used to. The hammer has a very short fall to the center barrel and misfires can be a problem with standard caps. I carefully sand caps thinner for use on the center barrel and don't have a problem.

The loading lever is not what I would call robust. They can drop when being fired, like the Walkers. The spring hook that holds the lever is fragile. I made a new one from spring steel. The ram rod can come out the end of the loading lever when fired. I slight bend in the ram rod cures that.

I use a loading stand now to reload.

A baby LeMat would be at the TOP of my list if they produce one. The LeMat has it's idiosyncrasies, but is the most fun to shoot bp revolver I own. The Colt's and Remington's are almost boring after shooting the LeMat.

Das Jaeger

loading stand :)
Now thats industrial strength , no screwin around on that custom stand . :D

I agree too after fondling and shooting the LeMat , I think only a .50 BMG would be makin me smile after I set the LeMat back down :D
That fact , and just looking at them in the cases makes Rembrants work look
very boring , to me . :uhoh:
Useable Art , oh so much better than paintings , to me . Nothin better to hang on the wall than cool guns . Artist tools if you will ? And Art all in one .
