I'm interested in both a 45 ACP and a 9mm.

I think I want the 45 in a 1911 style gun.....However, I have never shot one .......But

I have shot the XD 45 ACP and liked it a lot; felt good in my hand and it was crazy accurate for me.

So I was thinking is the 9mm XD anything like the 45 ACP XD? If it is, then I would get the 9mm XD and perhaps the Dan Wesson 1911 45.

Anyone shot both XD's? Any comments on them comparison wise?

Thanks

I own six XD's, in 9x19, 357 Sig and .45 acp. They all shoot great, are comfortable in the hand and point naturally. I have 9x19 XD's in both Sub Compact and XD-M. They are extremely reliable and accurate.

My XD 357 Sig is a Service Model, and was the first one I bought when they first came out. It has never failed me and I've got several thousand rounds through it. My XD .45 acp is also a Service Model, and is the same, accurate and reliable.

I own three 1911's, but very seldom shoot them anymore, since the XD holds 13+1 in .45 acp, and is at least as accurate as my 1911 that is all dressed out. The XD-M in 9x19 holds 19+1, and shoots right where the sights are aimed.

You won't go wrong with either one.

Hope this helps.

I own four XDs and four 1911s (well 3 full size and one DW CBOB Commander) and a smattering of others. :) The XDs are nice, but the 1911s actually shoot better for me because of the weight that moderates recoil and the single action trigger. Not to buy into the elitetism that orbits 1911s and their proponents, there is something to how they feel and shoot for me.

But to answer your question about a 9mm XD, my favorite XD and one of my favorite guns is the XD 5" (tactical) 9mm with SA's Custom Carry package. Accurate, easy to shoot and the 9mm in this configuration for me offers very little recoil. Great gun. Comparing the .45ACP in the XD with a 1911, the gun has more muzzle rise in recoil than a comparably sized 1911. At least for me.

any xd is good to go in my book, i have a service model in .40s&w with over 15,000rds and i couldn't be happier. personally if i was trying to descide between the .45 and 9mm i would go with 9mm, cheaper to reload and or buy factory ammo for.

I went in between and got the XD40 sub compact, IMO is the best all around gun in my collection

I have the XD45 compact service (4") and the XD9SC.

They are both great guns. My wife and I enjoy shooting/carrying them both.

I have a XD-45, I have shot .45 for 30 years and am accurate with it, but if I were starting out today I would get a 9mm (XDm)-cheaper ammo, more rounds, less recoil, and lots of high performance ammo choices.

Thanks for your comments. :) Bought the XDm 9 mm.

Came with a nice little kit too. The Springfield XD(M) comes with 2-19 round magazines, holster, accessory kit & hard case including a tool that helps you load the magazines.....only

I left with no ammo......you would think they would keep some back stock of ammo to go out with the gun!

Now the hunt begins for a 1911 45 ACP......

For what it's worth, I would get a XD-45.

Manual of arms is identical between it and your XD-9. Can't go wrong with that.

I originally purchased the XD-45 compact. Later on I bought a XD-9 service since I could reload cheaper for it than I could the XD-45c. Switching between the two is a no brainer. I CCW the XD-45c and do most (not all) of my range practice with the XD-9.

I have a nice Mk IV Series 70 sitting in the safe collecting dust ever since I bought the first XD.

If you're limited to only the XD 45 or an XD/XDM 9, I'd definitely get the XD 45. The 5" barreled Tactical model has been an excellent shooter for me. With the addition of a stainless guide rod, that adds just over an ounce of "non-reciprocating" weight to the front end, this pistol is a pussycat to handle. It shoots the cheap stuff just fine. But, with good quality hand loads, it'll make you look good at the range.

I bought my wife a .380 on the 1st, and like when I was a kid I receieved a free 20 box of ammo. I don't know what the dealer cost is for a LCP but I was out the door, with a 20 round box and 2 fifty round boxes of ammo, for about $380. The ammo alone at GM would have cost close to $80
