Break-Free CLP

I've heard some guys mention the "new" Break-Free as opposed to the "old" Break-Free. Was there a change in formulation at some point, or some other difference?

You might be referring to the commercial CLP (new) vs. military CLP (old).
Difference? I've heard that there is. IIRC, something along the lines of Teflon as an ingredient.
If you can't tell, I haven't the experience with it to know for sure.

I think Co is right.
At one time the military bought Breakfree CLP, now they get another brand that does not contain Teflon but meets the specifications for CLP. Probably at a lower cost. My FLG has a gallon of the newer stuff and likes it for guns and shop equipment.

There are several MSDSs that show BF's CLP formula (they can be found with just a little searching) changing over the years.
Off the top of my head I can recall at least three different iterations and there may be even more than that. Not an uncommon practice, but it does happen more than most folks realize.
It's still awfully good stuff.

The old stuff settles, whereas the new stuff does not.

All I know is the new commercial Break-Free CLP smells like carrots. :)

The early GI & commercial version was supposed to contain a carcinogen or something outlawed in Commiforinia.
I forget all the details.
