As say W-231? I like 231 very much but I heard good things about Titegroup too.

Cleaner than Bullseye or Unique. Dirtier than N320.

Titegroup's pretty clean, but if you like 231 and want clean, you'll love WST. ;)

Compared to Universal .. no.. BUT
Titegroup leaves a soot, but meters well and is easy to shoot. Light loads were nice in that they didn't leave lots of unburnt powder. This was a real problem with Universal. I've shot one pound of 231, so my experience is rather limited. My impression was that Titegroup was a bit cleaner, but I would not put money on it.
So, how does WST compare to Titegroup and 231?

WST is the modern version of 231. Meters well, burns very clean. Fast powder. I prefer it to N320 in my 45 loads. Try 4.3gr of WST behind a 200 gr SWC for a very accurate, soft load (that's the practice load used by the USMC pisol team).

I just got two pounds of Tightgroup and have shot about 500 rounds with it. Very accurate and pleasant to shoot in my 357's, but way dirtier than 231. Looks like I worked in a coal mine all day time I get 100 rounds through a revolver.
To be fair it's just a "soot" and wipes off pretty easily (guns, not hands), and I've not tried much in the way of changing starting loads or playing with crimps but so far looks like I'll be headed back to 231...

My wife is pregnant and it's been raining, so my cleaning routine is to pass lightly oiled paper towels through the chamber, barrel..etc. The soot comes out and everything is shiny. So, the soot looks bad, but cleans-up nicely. On the other hand, I had lots of unburnt powder with Universal..short of full power loads.
