Just saw the Modern Reloading Second Edition Book by Richard Lee at a gunstore. Is it worth putting on my bookshelf?

I think it's a good general book. It pushes Lee products, but covers quite a bit of material that is useful to a person learning reloading. The Lyman handbook is also a good general reloading book that I'd recommend. HTH

Max 800x loads lowered by 10%, likewise for VV powders.:barf:

Much more comprehensive that 1st though. Info for plated bullets etc.

Unless Lee has set up a ballistics lab since the first edition, they are just quoting powder company data. If the loads are lighter, IMR and VV have cut them.

Which brings up an interesting point, the loads listed were not shot in the same gun or test barrel and are not directly comparable from brand to brand of powder.

You mean there is no control on the pressure so a powder that looks like higher velocity would actually be a lower velocity if pressures were equal?

Like "Speer 12" and "Speer 13"?

I have it. I use it as a cross referance with all my other reloading guides. Some good info in it.

If you buy a copy, make sure it has all the pages. There was a problem at the printer, and some, like mine, were missing 30 or so pages. Something around pages 360-400 were missing; Lee was more than happy to remedy the situation.

The book is a nice overall introduction to reloading and bullet casting (it got me going, if nothing else), but it is a near non-stop infomecerial for Lee products. This may or may not be a bad thing, depending.

If you do buy it, got to Midway.com and look at the Lee Anniversary Reloading Pack (http://www.midwayusa.com/midwayusa/applications/esearch.exe/search?category_selector=all_products&search_keywords=480380). At $24, It is about what other books go for normally, and comes with a single-stage press.
