I just pulled the trigger so to speak on this old Ithaca 37 and I should have it in a week or so....but I was wondering if any of you had seen this style of checkering before?

It's not the best picture but the seller says it's in great shape.

66/67 would be nice as I'm hoping to shop around for a shorter barrel and I believe it's simpler with the post mid 60's models.

Looking forward to busting a few clays in a couple a weeks!!

If you post your serial number (feel free to blank out a few digits at the end) we can tell you when it was made.

Buy the Ithica and shoot it. It is a wonderful pump, many say the best ever. Forget the impressed checkering, it was all the rage in 1970 as a cost cutter.

The gun is a smooth pumper and ejects straight down. It's just a wonderful gun and joy to shoot. There is no better pump shotgun made. No matter what the Model 12 fans think.

So where does that put my #1031183 deer slayer? I never noticed the SN was so large.

Thanks. No checkering on slide, pressed on grip. Very nice American black walnut stock.I shot my first deer with this gun,so I am somewhat prejudiced, but I think it is a teriffic gun.

Got a mod. 17 Rem. from before they sold the design to Ithaca. Love it. Won't slamfire, though. Can you take out the disconnector?

While cleaning my Ithaca 37 with the barrel removed, I operated the slide. I know Ithaca said not to do this, but I forgot. Now the gun will not cock. Had this trouble once before but can't remember how to correct it. Can anyone help?

Might have to reach in with your finger or a non-marring tool and ease the hammer back. I've NEVER operated the slide without the barrel attached. If it's not the hammer, try to release the slide from the arm by sliding the little plunger on the slide (carrier) sideways.

Gun arrived safe and sound...couple of damaged screw heads and a few minor scratches but other wise in nice shape!
I will have to wait till some rain though to shoot it as our local range is closed due to fire danger.....too much hot and dry weather this summer.

It's too bad that you won't be able to run it, how much was it BTW?

$220 Cdn. shipped. It's got a big orange fibre optic tube up front for a sight which seems pretty nice...probably not original.

Can't tell from the pic, but that sight may be an original Ithaca "Raybar" sight.

My 1958 M 37 has one, and I know they were using them then because, as a kid, I drooled over them in the gun mag ads in the '50s.

I also understand that Ithaca now-finally-has a Canadian distrubutor in Alberta.

Sharps, RR 4 Dunnville ON was operated by a former Ithaca dealer / distributor who bought up a bunch of their inventory when one of the former Ithaca corporate incarnations went bust.

Great guy to deal with-don't know if he's still in business. He did a nice overhaul on mine when I got it a few years back.

Ithaca now also has a new distributor in Alta.

I promise you'll love the gun.

Are you sure this is the serial number? You seem to be adding or missing a digit.

How about mine #294417 year?

Well maybe I'm missing something. 371869884 would be 1983 or 1984... 869884 would be 1964. There shouldn't be a dash in there.

There is no dash I just figured that you wanted all the numbers, and I thought that including the 37 was not needed so I included the dash. But thanks again. 64 sounds right My mom gave it to my dad for an anniversary gift in 65 or 66.

Was made in 1948, not 1940.

Thanks for the correction, Badger. It was given to about 8 years ago. All the blueing is gone and it had a brown patina, almost like a Brown Bess. It's very tight and slick. This is the easiest shotgun to point and shoot I've ever owned. It had a stamp on the barrel that says PROOFED. Was this put on all their barrels?
