I finally obtained some small rifle primers and being the curious guy that I am I decided to check the size of the small rifle primers to the small pistol primers, lo and behold their both the same size, what is it that makes them different, is it something to do with the igniter compound used ?????

The pistol primers are made of a thinner cup and can not handle the higher pressures of a rifle.
