What can the average reloader hope to do with:

split brass?

Blazer type aluminum?

Rimfire brass?

steel?(may be reloadable, but not really)

Evil Berdan primed brass?(technically reloadable, but such a pain)

Over time, depending on how much you shoot, these tend to accumulate. Uses?

Split 44 mag brass I trip down to 44 Special.

I don't do blazer.

22 rimfire can be made into bullet jackets for 223, 22-250, and most of the 22 caliber rifles. You can do it if you want to spend the money on a Corbin swagging press. Makes for some pretty good shooting too.

I don't mess with the rest of it.

Sort and sell for scrap, then buy new brass with the proceeds.

Scrap brass cases (Berdan, damaged, badly corroded, stepped on, etc) all go in the bucket with spent primers and all the old keys and such to be sold for scrap brass to the foundry, or traded for lead.

Aluminum cases can't be sold for scrap aluminum because the primer is brass (mixed metals). The scrap guys won't buy them as aluminum so they go with the steel cases as mixed sheetmetal along with the car parts, oil filters, etc. misc metal junk I sell to the scrap yard for whatever I get for it.

I give them to my plumber buddy who recycles scrap metal to help pay for his reloading components. He actually picks up my scrap when I accumulat several pounds. :)

Scrap it. No other good use. We turn in over 1,000 lbs a month and haven't found a better use yet.

Rimfires can be used to make jackets as can many other rifle carts.

All good ideas but selling to the recycler is the most cost effective answer unless investing in tools to work it yourself.

Make drawer pulls out of berdan primed brass and pitch the rest.
"...split stuff can be trimmed and..." Depending on how badly split and where the split is on the case. A split case is tired and work hardened. Even if you did trim a .357 to .38 Special length, it's not going to last long.

All my unuseable brass goes in a box to be taken to the recycler. The rest, since it is a very small quantity, I throw in my recycle bin which is picked up weekly. It isn't worth enough to me to try to take each type to the recyclers.
