shotgun advice

Hi, I'm a new member looking for some advice. I live and hunt in Va. and starting this year will be hunting(deer) in a shot gun only county. I own a mossberg 835 ulti mag set up for turkeys and a winchester model 1300 for wingshooting. I'm currently looking at the mossberg 500 slugster, but before I purchase it I have been looking at all my options. I looked into buying the slug barrel for the 835, but opted against it because I can buy the 500 set up to go for $90 more than I can the replacement barrel. I guess what I'm leading up to is, I was wondering if anyone has any experiences shooting slugs with a model 1300 ranger, or even if it's possible, before I make my final decision?

If I may, what ranges do you and your hunting buddies, family, whatever think that you will usually shoot at?
What kind of hunting will you do? Stalking, drives, sitting in stands?
Welcome to THR! It's a great place to learn.

try it before you buy, what do you have to lose?

I'd get a rifled barrel for the Mossy so you can shoot sabot deer slugs and hit at longer range if necessary.
A new rifled barrel with rifle sights is only $144 bucks direct from Mossberg.
A rifled one with a cantilever scope mount in camo finish is only $188.
The cantilever mount allows you to swap barrels without losing the scope zero.

+1 if deer hunting is something he wants to stick with.
