(Orlando-AP) -- A 50-year-old man has died in the Orlando area, just minutes after Orange County sheriff's deputies used a Taser stun gun on him.

But the Orange County Medical Examiner's office is out with a preliminary ruling, saying the stun gun was NOT the cause. A final ruling won't be made until toxicology reports are complete. Sheriff's investigators believe Louis Morris was under the influence of drugs when he died Tuesday night.

Two deputies were dispatched to a grocery store parking lot after receiving a call that a burglary was in progress. Witnesses told deputies a man was beating on the window of a parked car in the parking lot.

The deputies found a man who matched a description of the suspect walking on a nearby street. When deputies confronted Morris, they say he became "combative and agitated" and said that someone was after him.

One of the deputies used the stun gun in an attempt to restrain Morris. Restrained on the ground, he began to struggle and bang his head on the parking lot.

Realizing Morris was in distress, the deputies called paramedics. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Another example of why these devices are properly classified as less lethal not non-lethal.

It's unfortunate that incidents like this happen but it doesn't appear that the deputies used excessive force. The sad fact is that until science really gives us a phaser that you can set on stun, that works on everybody, everytime, incidents like these will continue to happen.
