Ok guys, I have hunted this gun for a long time now and will be picking it up in a trade on Friday night. It is a 2008 model, ramped barrel, comes with 300+ rounds of quality 10mm. What do you use for defense? What are some good target rounds?

I need to be enlightened. Tell me all I need to know about the 10mm and what the Dan Wesson's like to eat. I'd also like to find a good carry rig for it. Pictures are a must if you own one! Are the factory mags decent or should I get some different ones? This gun has had ~80 rounds through it. What is a good break-in period for it? What lubricants do you use in yours considering the tight fit? I am open to any other input, comments, questions, suggestions. Thanks! It's going to be a long wait until Friday night!

Congratulations on the CBOB.

I wouldn't use CLP as a lube, FWIW. Seems like the few folks that had their CBOB's slides gall were all using CLP as lube. Maybe a fluke, but maybe not. I'd also stay away from grease. The gun is too tightly fit for grease- it'll just get pushed right out the back of the gun. It needs good oil. FP-10 is what a good number of DW shooters use. I use a silicon/Teflon lube that has worked well for me. Some folks also use ATF or synthetic motor oil.

All of that being said, you have a great pistol there, and you'll more than likely find out that break-in is basically non-existent. I've never had a single hiccup out of mine, even going through some 300 or so consecutive round range sessions.

I had the .45 version. Was a bit tight when new, but worked very well with all loads.http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb26/czrami/vacation/cbob3.jpg

In 10mm.. I like Double Tap:

and Hornady XTP for factory ammo.

--but the older Silvertips are still good factory rounds.
-I've shot Sierra, Hornady, Winchester, and Gold Dots for hand loads.

--I urge all 10mm fans to contact Hornady and ask them to please
continue the FTX tradition and offer the 10mm in the flex tip.

_I'd like to see them reduce the velocity to 1,200 fps.
--As That seems to be a real sweet spot for my loads.
--Not too punishing on gun or shooter, but still quite
authorative with a time proven 180 grain XTP or other Hollow Point.

Back to the CBOB.

--I think you will really like it!

I'd like to see DW offer the blacked out VALOR in 10mm someday.

I have a Razorback, and I mostly shoot heavy 180 grain handloads. I encountered a few (less than 5) failures to feed in the first hundred rounds, and it's performed flawlessly since then. I don't see much sense in downloading the 10mm to .40 S&W performance.

I lube it with RIG +P Stainless Steel Lube, which purports to be specifically for lubing stainless steel automatics. Although it's a grease, and some of it is displaced when you first work the slide after applying it, it does form a film of lubricant that lasts longer than oil, despite the tightness of the slide to frame fit.

No complaints with the factory mags. The gun is superbly accurate into the bargain...:D

CONGRATS on your 10mm !!!! I have been useing Breakfree for many years on all my firearms both blued and stainless. I would get some Wilson or CM/Shooting Star mags , I like to have AT LEAST 7 mags per gun.
As for SD loads , the Double Tap loads are very good. As I reload , I have SD loads in everything from 135gr. to 210gr.

Thanks for the input everyone, I am very excited about this gun!

Question:

Anybody ever use the Georgia Arms 10mm. Price isn't bad at all for the target stuff. Pros/cons (besides the wait). Anybody used it in a Dan Wesson?

I haven't tried the 10mm, but the .45 in both 230 gr ball and the 185 gr JHP run just fine through my guns. Never a problem. A little dirty IME, but accurate and consistent.
