I have a Remington 770 chambered in .308 Winchester. Am I correct in that it will accept 7.62mm cartridges? Is there anything that I should watch for or be concerned about before chambering a round? I just was wondering on the versitility of the two rounds if they could be used in the same gun. Thanks.

They are interchangeable, although you will find most 7.62 Nato rounds will be FMJ, ok for coyotes and such but not much in the way of a game fetching bullet. The factory hunting loads are actually a little hotter given they are close to the same weight bullets.

You can shoot 7.62x51 NATO, but DO NOT shoot 7.62x39 or 7.62x54R.

Do not use FMJ for hunting, even coyotes.
Expanding bullets are for hunting.

FMJ will not kill cleanly & humanely unless you make a perfect shot.

FMJ will skip and ricochet across a section of ranch land and kill somebody's cow.
Even after going through a coyote.
