$2900, Excellent cond. Green furniture, 20" barrel.

900SA series - whatever that means, the seller advertised it, so it must be good.

Also, anyone have direct experience with Steyr AUGs?

They're really cool little rifles and super accurate to boot. The problem with them is the price. They're not worth 3K., IMO. I'd much rather have 6 mini's than 1 AUG. Or 4 AR's.

Personally, I'm hoping and banking on the AWB to be repealed and not replaced with anything as bad or worse, and hopefully see prices come down.

The ban on importation of the Steyr AUG is not part of the AWB of 94. They were banned in 88-89. They will still be banned after 2004 should the AWB sunsets. So value should remain high.

I have fired thousands of rounds through the AUG. I was the lead instructor on the AUG for my agency for 9 years, and it is the best 5.56 fighting rifle you can get. I put 14,000 rounds through one gun without cleaning it, and it was still within spec! And I do not recall the range guns ever breaking a part in all that time.

It is not a match rifle, target rifle, or sniper rifle. It does not need all kinds of stuff bolted on it to make it work. It's not perfect, but darn close.
The price sounds about on market value, if it includes some mags.
Go ahead, buy and enjoy it. My personal AUG is not for sale - ever.

Sleuth, do you know what 900SA means? The seller made a point of advertising this info.

Sorry, I can't help you on that. There are several Steyr boards, try there.

If you want one, that is a reasonable price. I've seen them anywhere from $2,500 to $6,000 with most falling around the $4k mark.

Sleuth - it does my heart good to read your AUG comments. All too often this weapon is just totally trashed on the forums.

I feel it is a near perfect system to utilize the 5.56 round, when all factors are considered.

reliability is questionable. (aug's used to be all the rage in the late 80s at the sof match, few if any of them ran through a stage without malfing. ar's are the thing now) reloads are slow. the sight is not as good as an acog.

Did you even read Sleuth's post.

Seems he has the "hands on" to back up the AUG's claim to greatness.

The military units that use these guns don't seem to have nearly so many complaints as those who use the AR series and the troubled SA80. The FAMAS is however considered by many to be the king of the bullpups.

My local gun shop X ring supply, Newark Delaware has one hanging on the wall. its been there for at least the last 7 years. The price is around $2600
IIRC they would love to sell it and will ship it to your FFL.

Very nice people to deal with.

You may be able to do a good deal.

I called X Ring Supply. The price was $3600, not $2600. You tease. :p

Yes i did. and yes, i have hands on to back up MY claim. (being a range officer every year at a 3 gun match gives you a good opportunity to see what works and what doesn't.) Augs don't work. Unless they do.

Sounds like a good investment to me as long as you don't spend money you need. Hold it several years and who knows?

BTW, was the flashhider the only difference between preban and not? I can't remember any bayo lug on the Augs?

Mr. Wyatt,
Having been an IPSC Rangemaster for 19 years, I too have seen lots of guns spaz at matches. While I have never done a 3 Gun Nationals, I have been to a lot of other shoots (RO'd at 3 world shoots, 6 or 7 Nationals). In my experience, all of the guns that spazzed out had been "improved" by various 'gunsmiths' of known, unknown, or no credentials. The more work done to the gun, the more likely it would fail.

The AUG's I had at the academy were box stock. They were mistreated on a regular basis by the students (which is why these rifles did not go out into the field). I would never claim we had no problems, but we broke no parts, and those malfuntions we did have were user clearable as they learned to handle the weapon. In 9 years we fired in excess of 450,000 rounds though 14 rifles, which speaks to their durability.

As to the slow reloads, we taught a speed reload that was close to what the average (not Master class) shooter could do with an AR15 series rifle. It did involve dropping a mag in the dirt - not a problem with Govt. mags, a completly different story when you buy your own. But we were teaching students to survive, not win under the artificial conditions of a match.

When I completed my tour at the academy, I went back to the field in a high risk area. My long gun of choice - an AUG. Never needed to fire it in the line of duty, but I, and the others in my agency, had absolute faith in the system. Your results, of course, may vary.

I think I recall some Australian army guys around here talking about their issue AUGs, and not being all that impressed. It's probably in the archives somewhere...yeah, here we are.

It's a little over halfway down. Look for Deadman's post.

IIRC, the Aussie guns are NOT Steyr built AUGS. The same happens when there are so many different makers of AR's or AK's - they should each be judged individually.

The Aussies bought the rights to make the AUG w/o the tech support package. As a result, they had some problems. Steyr eventually fixed things.
