Haven't seen this posted here yet.......don't know if anyone else remembers it.......but 20 years ago the Marine Barracks in Beirut Lebanon was destroyed by a car bomb on a quite Sunday morning.

Semper Fi to all my lost Marine brothers.

I have some pictures of Beirut when I was there, early 1983 (before the bombing) I'll post when Image Station comes back online.

I remember it well. I was in Carrier Air Wing Nine on USS Ranger in the North Arabian Sea when it happened. The entire deployment schedule went out the porthole and we spent 121 continuous days at sea while the Reagan administration looked for enough evidence to link the attack to Iran.

An Iranian P3 came out to take a look at USS Ranger and I almost got to shoot him down. Unfortunately, or fortunately (depending on your point of view), the P3 turned around and went home.

I remember it like it was yesterday. My wife's Navy medical unit is attached to the marines because they supply their corpsman. She always drills with Marines during her active duty stints, and marines are hard people not to like if you get to know them. She cried a lot over that waste of life. I remember what she said when she was cursing Reagan out: "Marines want to fight, but they didn't even have a mission." I guess their mission was to walk around and look impressive(?) The real tragedy was that after we pulled out, nothing had changed.

And the current shooting gallery in Iraq has exactly the same aroma.... US troops walking around with targets on their backs, never knowing where the next bomb is going to go off. Doesn't seem like the republican administrations get any smarter as we go along.:barf:

Both parties fail to understand that it is better to be feared than loved.

You know what stinks? The CIA had a chance to get the guy behind it and they just sat on their ___es. Now the scumbag is in Iran causing us trouble, or so I hear.
