I have some ammo on order from CMP but they are apparently more backed up than they admit too because I ordered the ammo a month ago and havent even received the confirmation yet, or a response to my inquiry as to the status of my order 2 weeks ago. I am almost out of my last batch from CMP. So untill my order comes thru, does anyone know where to find Garand ammo that isn't way over priced?

You can use commercial .30'06 ammo in you Garand if you buy an adjustable gas plug that you will need to tweak depending on which ammo you're using.

as to your original question, if you throw out the "way over priced" part its a lot easier.

honestly, if you leave that part in, you might look into reloading.

did you know you can get everything you need to get started for not too much more that a couple of those cases?

its really easy to load for the garand. just make sure you use the right powder (h4895 or imr4895 are both just about perfect)

i know thats not your original ??? but you should know how cheap it is to get started.

lee single stage press, cheapo version..........25 bux
full die set...............................................25 bux
powder measure.......................................25 bux
scale......................................................25 bux
lee zip trim and cutter...............................25 bux
lee auto primer.........................................15 bux
ebay cheapo digital caliper.........................12 bux

hob gob reloading for the rest of his life......priceless

then if you ever wanted to really up production you could spend 65 more and get a turret press. all the other stuff would work in it.

by the time you have loaded your 1st hundred, the ammo you will be making will be far better than anything you can buy.

sorry if you didnt want to hear all that, i actually worked it all up for ya

bryan.

What are you willing to pay?

Federal has Garand safe ammo for $15/20 at many shops.

Schuster Adjustable Gas Plug allows you to shoot pretty much whatever ammo fits in the chamber.

Federal American Eagle 150 grain is loaded to Garand specs. AFAIK.

Most folks, before the interwebz, shot commercial ammo without ill effect in most cases especially if kept down to 150 grains or so. I am not saying this isn't a risk of boogering your op rod just saying that a whole heck of a lot of folks shoot their garands with wildly out of spec ammo every day.

My suggestion is to get the adjustable gas plug and call it a day. Cheap, easy, good piece of mind.
