IWB holster cant

I've tried the THR search and Google search. Either this hasn't been discussed much, or I don't know how to search - a definite possibility.

I've mentioned elsewhere that I'm a big ol' boy - 6'4", knocking on 300 lbs (though the doc and my wife tell me that had better be part of my HISTORY and not FUTURE). I have a KT PF9 that I plan to carry (I'm going to try pocket carry first; I also have a JMG holster (13.0) on order for other times when a pocket carry is out) most of the time, but would like the option of a larger gun if/when I desire. My larger framed guns would include a M&P9 (full-size) and Officer 1911. If it matters, my day job is professional attire (shirt & tie; some polo & slacks) but weekends are comfey clothes.

I've been reading that FBI/forward cant style is best for those who carry behind the side-seam of the pants (I'm lefty, so that would be the 8-9pm position) but a straight cant might be better for 9pm forward. Is this true for big ol' boys, too? Any of you corn-fed boys want to share your preferred style of cant?

I haven't decided on a holster yet. I'm thinking Crossbreed's QuickClip looks promising, and it can be ordered either way - FBI or straight - thus, the question. I like it because it can be removed from the belt without having to de-belt. Too, it's a relatively quick slip-on for an evening run to Wally World. The SuperTuck and CompTac's Minotaur also look good - the latter two, especially, for the heavier 1911 frame - but they are adjustable, so the question with them is moot as it can be changed.

Thoughts? Opinions? Disagreements? Let me hear them!

Hey big guy, I'm know expert. But I've carried IWB for many years now. I sometimes pocket carry too.

For pocket carry, see if you can find a pocket holster. Unless your pocket is tailored correctly the gun will not sit vertical. Also a pocket holster will keep some of the lint out of the gun. You must inspect the gun frequently and clean the lint out. That's only disadvantage of pocket carry that I know of.

FBI cant works best for most people because it's easier to draw the gun up AND out instead of straight up. Especially with a full size gun with a longer barrell. I have carried a full size 1911, M&P 9 and other guns with no problems. You can too. The most important thing about IWB carry is a good holster. There are many to choose from but stay away from any holster maker that charges your BEFORE they start to make your holster.

I recommend www.kdholsters.com

Great products at great prices and even better service.

I'm 6'3", but only 200 lbs, and I really like a decent cant for carrying at 2 and 3 o'clock. (full size 1911)
My carry holster has a 22 degree cant, I think.

I found this this morning. Used "rake" instead of "cant" in Google - bingo!

I guess the short answer is - with an EMPTY gun, try different positions on the belt and see how it feels.

I'm 6' and 260. When I carry IWB (not very often) I use a Supertuck and a CTAC. I have both configured for max forward can't. It helps the grip of the gun slide up and down the love handles rather than biting into them.

I just started carrying. I use a Kholster which, from what I can tell, offers a greater number of cant angles than most other IWB holsters.

I carry my XD45 about 4 oclock, angled forward about 30 deg. I'm 6'2", 215lbs. Got some love handles, and the gun is usually comfortable, although I'm still experimenting a little, fine tuning its position.

8 oclock for a lefty would be about right.

I prefer the KyTac BraveHeart (www.kytac.com) and it would work pretty well for your stated preferences.
