H. R. 2038
To reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes. (http://www.candidatesonguns.org/content/pdf/policy_assault_hr2038.pdf)

(a)IN GENERAL.—Section 921(a)(30)of title 18,
United States Code,is amended to read as follows:

(30)The term ‘semiautomatic assault weapon
means any of the following:

(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally
designed for military or law enforcement use,
or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm,
that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes,
as determined by the Attorney General.

In making the determination, there shall be a
rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use
by the United States military or any Federal law
enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for
sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be
determined to be particularly suitable for sporting
purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use
in a sporting event.

On occasion, I come across someone that is so worthless that the concept of "retroactive abortion" comes to mind. Looks like I've found another prospect.

I put up a couple of different posts analyzing HR 2038 from a couple of different points of view (rifle shooters, general, and shotgun owners.)

Here's a link to one of the ones I wrote:

That sporting purposes clause is only one of the more evil features of that particularly odious bit of legislation.

Hello, hunters? Target shooters? WAKE UP! You sell us down the river with our non-sporting handguns and evil "assault weapons" and this is what you get.

Never compromise. Never never never.

Do you think we can get a resolution through Congress finding that shooting polticians is a "sporting use"?

Better yet, that failing to shoot a politician is a crime?

It'll never fly - at least not for long even if it does get passed.

Even the Miller decision (1939) recognized that the militia needed military weapons used by the common soldier. That was the whole point of the case that the shotgun in question wasn't in common use by the common soldier (total BS but hey there wasn't anyone present to argue against the governments case).

The whole sporting thing is just another indication that the socialist bastards in congress like Feinstein and Ted the Red don't just not care about the constitution but probably haven't even read it.

...as determined by the Attorney General...

Didn't take me ten seconds to spot the problem.
