I know this is a dumb question but will my garage sale find Pacific .357 mag carbide dies crimp .38spl correctly? I am going to try later but any advice will be appreciated.

I'm not sure if that die will do both, especially a crimp die. Lee sells a 38/357 die set that will do both and they also sell a .357 Magnum die set that won't do .38's at all. I would suggest trying to find some information on a search engine about those dies. I think Hornady bought them out so you might be able to get information from Hornady.

Good luck...

The carbide die will work for both, but the crimp die will probably be too deep to work with the shorter case. A .38spcl die set should work for both. At least I don't know of any that don't have a deep enough sizer to take the longer magnum case.

As already posted, they may be .38/.357 or just .357. The easiest way to tell is to stick a piece of .38 brass in a shell holder and run it up in the seater/crimper by hand. If the brass hits the crimp ledge, it will work for both.

If it won't work, find a friend with a lathe and an angle-head grinder.

Take 1/8" off the bottom of the seater die and it will work just peachy keen.
