Strange Russian 30-06 Ammo

I have some Barnaul 30-06 ammo that has an inset groove in around the rear of the case- can anyone offer up a reason for this? the anti-magnum round??:confused:

its because steel isnt as expandable as brass... the groove is there so that the case can expand in this place.

on a side note I've found this ammunition to be surprisingly accurate
