OK, does anyone out there use any type of red-dot or holo-sight on their 12G shotguns? If so, what type of sight, what loads in the piece, and how long/with how much shooting has that sight endured? I’m considering the Russian Kobra sight on a Remington 870, for both HD and bird hunting.

I have run a Tasco PDP5 on my Benelli when shooting Open class in 3-
Gun Matchs. I use a Da-Mar Mount, most loads are 1-1/8 x 3 dram equivalent minimum with some buckshot and slugs thrown in the mix. I switch my gun back and forth between Open and Limited or Tactical configuration so I'm not sure of the round count on the dot but it must be at least 2000.

Just my $0.02...

For HD, probably fine, although at most HD distances a simple front-bead is quite sufficient.

With regards to birds, a red-dot or holo-sight is good for turkeys. However, anything that causes you to look at the sight is a BAD THING when shooting birds on the wing. You want your focus to be entirely on the target, and the gun to swing naturally. Trying to line up a dot on a moving target is a sure-fire recipe for a miss. I suppose that it would be OK if you were essentially able to ignore it, but otherwise I would think it to be more hinderance than help.
