Night sights on military guns?

Anyone know how night sights are placed on military weapons? I read somewhere that they only use front night sights on their pistols -- not the front/rear combination. Can any former military personnel confirm?

Only seen two military pistols with night sights, they were sith SF guys and they said most of their guns did not have night sights. The older rifle night sights I have seen referenced in the marksmanship manual (if my questionable memory is currently working) only had a front insert since the rear apeture is so close to the eye it should not be needed. The two pistols I mentioned before were equiped with front and rear nightsights.

The Beretta 92FS is a military gun which I have. It's the first one I'll be getting night sights on. I had thought about three trijicon but have since decided to go with the two rear novack in black and a single trijicon in front. It's not only cheaper but also my sense for me since I tend to focus only on the front sight when shooting.

The classic 92FS is a pain to add night sights to. Basically your options are to install one of the little "hats" over the front sight, or ship the entire slide off to have it loaded.
Which method were you planning on using? (Personally, I'd advise the latter; more expensive and time-consuming, yes, but the little add-on "hat" plays hob with the 92FS's swoopy Italian lines.)
The dovetailed front sights may be the single best change on the Brigadier and Vertec models...

Galil had tritium sights.
So do Uzis, while M-16's have a "darkness" configuration of the rear sight (not a true night sight).

I'll be sending off my entire gun to Ernest Langdon. I'm going to have a few things done: stainless steel guide rod, ss trigger job, ss slotted grip screws and the novack/trijicon night sights installed. I think Ernest sends it off to Tooltech for the sights where it's drilled into the gun. It's a project saving up for this but well worth it. He did a great job with my compacts, but as I said this is the first gun that will have sights.

Damn right about dovetailing the sights Tamara, now if only we could get that across to all those M1911 manufacturers.

he has slotted SS screws? Sweet, I hate carrying stupid allen wrenches to the range.

He does. I have the hex screws on my gun and while trying to change the grip -- I managed all but one. Ended up stripping one of the screws and almost couldn't remove it. Had to get my father to help -- he didn't know I had the gun at that time, what fun -- we distracted my mother with a damn BBC DVD she loves -- and tried to remove the screws. Never again I said and I asked Ernest if he had the regular slotted in blue and stainless. He said yes so I'm going to stick with those from now on... No more Hex screws ever....:cuss:
