I'd like to hear facts and opinions on the Taurus PT908

I've heard good and bad reports on this discontinued model from Taurus.

As for Taurus, some people swear by them while some people swear at them.

I like the single stack. I like the decocker. I like the size.

Is this a reliable weapon?

I had a very early model, bought it when the guns just came out. I did have a couple problems with it that prompted me to sell it off. The front sight slid out of its dovetail. Had to punch one side in a little to keep it in place. The disconnect hump of the action bar peened a burr into the disconnect notch of the slide. This burr eventually dragged on the sliderail to hinder and eventually bind up the slide. Took the slide off and filed the burr down. The slide seemed to be of softer than needed material. Overall fit and finish was, IMO, not as well as their earlier Beretta/Walther-type guns. I had (and still have) a PT-99AF and PT-58S to compare with (sold one other 58 to finance another purchase). The grip was just a tad too narrow to me giving a hollow feeling in my palm. I noted the problems I had with it to the person (a machinist) I sold it too.

Now this was a very early gun. It could be Taurus might have improved the metallurgy of the slide to prevent the peening problem as well as the other quality issues as production ramped up.

When the gun did shoot, it shot well enough for me (accuracy wise).

How could one tell if they had an early or late production gun?

Dont have a 908 but got a PT100 and I love it. Great gun. Taurus service was outstanding from my experience. I will be bringing the 100AFS out if you want to shoot it. Its a full size .40 cal.

Do you know about the Phoenix THR get together on the 1st of Nov?
