Ruger RedHawk Problem !

Anyone having experience with Rugers Customer Service?

Today I developed a problem with my 44 Redhawk. After about 70 rounds, the firing pin stayed out and wouldn't go back. Finally managed to open cylinder and unload gun, but I couldn't get the firing pin back in. So I packed up and after a good inspection and cleaning at home I noticed that I couldn't get anywhere near the firing pin ( I first had thought that there was some dirt stuck in there ).

Well meanwhile I am back from a gun smith and after looking at it they told me that they cannot fix that and the gun has to be sent back to Ruger for repair. It seems like that the plate ( I forgot the name, is it called "breech face" like in Semi Autos? ) where the hole is and the firing pin peaks through, is deformed and damaged and that's why the pin is stuck ( I mean stuck as in "welded" there). I just looked at it again, this rear plate seems to be the frame itself, can that even be fixed without changing the frame?

Anyhow, has anyone here sent something to Ruger? Do I need to call or Email and is this covered under a warranty ? I bought the gun used but it was like unfired and I have maybe 1000 rounds through it and the max load I shot was still about 5 % below any load data. The gun smith thinks its a factory defect or too many hot loads. He also said he had seen this before but NEVER on a Ruger.

I have no experience here since this is the first fire arm I own that went bad. ( except one, way back in the stone age )

Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

I sent a light primer striking Redhawk to them late last year and they fixed my problem for free....and pretty much re-built the whole action and threw in a nicer set of grip panels on top of that. E-mail or call them first for details on how to ship and what info needs to be enclosed with the revolver. I used Fed Ex shipping and it was back in my hands in a week.

If you go to www.rugerforum.com you will find that 99% of the comments regarding Ruger's customer service is exceptional.

Good News. Found a notice from FED EX in front of my door when I came home from the shooting range and today I went to pick up the Redhawk.

I was impressed how well packaged the gun came back. It was packed in plastic in a generic Ruger box (cardboard) inside a shipping box. A manual, which had been missing was also included! There was no charge for fixing it and it came with a list that showed which parts were replaced or repaired. The gun also was test fired 3 times.

Since I had that gun polished, I was a little worried about the finish, but it came back flawless and wherever they worked on the gun, they blended the finish perfectly with what I had.

That was really a great experience with the RUGER service department! The gun was gone for only 15 days!

Several companies who build 1911s could take a lesson from Ruger and their service department. Only company I've found in the gun sector with better service than Ruger is Dillon (and its very close).

Glad you got your gun fixed to your satisfaction (not surprised, though :) ).

I have yet to break a Ruger, or have one malfunction. They have the reputation as the "Abrams tank" of revolvers. I think it is prudent for them to make it right. I am glad to hear this. I will continue to buy them.
