I have been using titegroup in my 357 and 45 . good powder but with lead rounds I get a lot of smoke . I am looking to get a different powder . I shoot 158 gr. swc in 357 and 230 gr. lead round in 45. What would be a good powder that will not smoke like titegroup.

It's not powder smoke.

It's bullet lube smoke.

Fugedaboutit!

Or shoot jacketed bullets.

ok if its the bullet lube and I am using cast bullets from Missouri bullet co. good company by the way. Will a different powder be not as hot and smoke the lube. a number of members have said that it is the lube causing the smoke. I am just tring to fing a powder that may not smoke at all or not as bad as titegroup with these lead rounds

I am loading the same bullets. I get a lot of smoke with Titegroup in .45ACP (I don't load it in .357/.38), but I shoot mostly outside and I like the characteristics of Titegroup, so I just use it anyway. Its economical and meters well, so I live with the smoke.

I use HS-6 in .38 and it seems to smoke less, but again, I mostly shoot outside. I've also loaded Trail Boss in .45ACP, and it is less smokey than Titegroup.

Most other fast powders, except ones high in nitroglycerin, will smoke a little less than Titegroup, which is known to burn hot and smoke a bit more with lead.

W-231 and lead is very hard to beat in .45 ACP. It will work in .357 just fine as well for light to medium light loads. Same area you are loading .357 with Titegroup.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess that I will have to get a 1lb of w-231 and give it a try. As I mostly shoot indoors and the smoke can be quite heavy after 3 or 4 quick 10 rd mags.. something that smokes the lube less is going to help a lot.
