Copper solvent, powder solvent, or black powder solvent?

Personally I have used Hoppes #9 for about 55 years and have always been happy enough to not try very many others.

I also use Hoppes Bench Rest Copper solvent and it works well too.

I don't shoot Black Powder anymore, but if I did, hot soap & water would be my choice there.

I don't shoot Black Powder anymore, but if I did, hot soap & water would be my choice there.

Plus 1 on the soap & water clean-up. Then spray with WD-40 to prevent rust and the varnish build-up makes for a extra good tight fit for patch & ball.

THIS IS A JOKE, PLEASE TAKE IT AS SUCH.

In the past 3 months I have purchased several older military rifles. A Turkish Mauser, 2 Yugo SKSs, and 3 Mosin-Nagants and shoot all of them with corrosive ammo. The dealer I bought them from cleans his after shooting with just Mineral Spirits only and has never had a corrosion problem. He said he believes in that product because the Swiss only used MS to clean after corrosive and they had some of the shiniest bores availiable. The product called Ed's Red is made up of equal parts of Mineral Spirits, Kerosene, and Automatic Transmission Fluid so I made up a batch and have been cleaning all my weapons including Black Powder firearms which has not produced any problems with BP residue. So I just haven't even thought about using water, soap or Windex after finding this product really does work as a cleaner, lubricator, and protectant. I was even told that Marvel Mystery Oil and Ed's Red are one and the same. Think about it!
