I FINALLY was able to go to my first IDPA match. It was a lot of fun. I screwed up plenty, like forgetting to shoot at a target entirely. But no safety issues, and that is what I was really going for on my first attempt.

I will say, I will be going back next month, I'm hooked.

By the way it was at Benchrest Gun Club in Wright City, MO; VERY nice place and everyone was helpful.

Good for you. New shooters are universally welcome at every club I've ever visited. I hope you have as much fun with IDPA as I do.

I'm just curious, what pistol did you use and did you have any reliability issues?

Agreed. I have shot a couple of BPCR matches there and it is a very complete facility.

Indeed, welcome to IDPA. Don't be concerned about forgetting a target. I was SOing at the Ala State Match this year and forgot to engage the last target on the stage I was working. Jeez. That was frustrating.

I'm using a 9mm Springfield XDm and was able to use all of the gear it came with.

Might pick up a better holster sometime in the future, but no rush right now.

this is what i was trying to say in my post--"where is the accuracy" on handguns/autoloaders. and don't worry, missing a target completely really comes home when you shoot a bowling pin match. i mean 15 rds. downrange at a bowling pin placed 20 feet away. you think that the bullets must have passed right through the pin. it's humbling but a lot of fun. congratulations.

Glad you had a great time! Next match bring a friend or two that has never shot a match. The more new shooters, the better!!!!

I did in a way, a friend that "twisted" my arm to buy a gun, went with me. It was the first time for both of us and both of us had a great time.

Planning on going again next month, assuming life doesn't get it the way of having fun.

I’ve been shooting heavily for 30 years and just a couple of months ago I participated in my first match… I surprised myself how much I enjoyed it and how much I learned – this weekend is the next one and I’m really anxious to attend.
