So... today I found myself briefly visiting a gun shop. They had a number of BP revolvers in the case. One of them was a "High Standard". I think it was a .36 of the Colt flavor design. Anyone have any experience with 'em? I didn't know High Standard made a BP revolver replica. The exterior fit/finish looked very nice. I didn't get a chance to look it over though... my buddy was in a rush to get back home... a buddy of ours was bringing us both some halibut cheeks and a filet each.

I've had this High Standard for a few years. I shoot it every now and then. It has the same issues and problems as Ubertis and Piettas (I think they were made by Uberti). It's a great gun but sometimes they are overpriced on auction sites.

High Standard made several different cap and ball revolvers for their "Guns of the Confederacy" series. They made both brass and steel frame guns. Uberti supplies the barrels and cylinders, like in the 2nd gen Colts, and HS did the rest of the manufacturing in house. There is no color case hardening on these, all parts are a very nice high gloss black, like the 3rd gen Colts. Of the three I have two have a great fit and finish, the third needed some work on the barrel to arbor fit, barrel gap and minor timing adjustment. The cased sets if unfired bring prices similar to 2nd gen Colts.

Ratdog, I may have to make a road trip up north, how many C&B'ers did this shop have? Something is burning a hole in my pocket! I used to do the PDX to SEA run in two hours, I think that would land me in jail these days, plus traffic comes to a stop at OLY.

MCB... his inventory varies quite a bit. He's a pawn shop/gun dealer. Sometimes, he's got only one BP pistol... yesterday he had about eight of them. He'll probably average about five Hawken type rifles and four or five military styled BP rifles.
