A while back on a thread about walking sticks, we were talking about blackthorn, AKA Prunus spinosa. I said I was looking for some way to grow it here in the SE US, and a couple of folks expressed an interest in finding out more about it as well.
It isn't as easy as one might think to lay hands on this stuff. I did finally find one nursery supplier that listed it as available (Byron Nursery, St. Charles, IL), but it's too late in the year this year to get any now that I found it. So, maybe next year I can get some rooted stock and see if it'll grow here.
As to seeds, they seem to be pretty iffy and can take a long time (up to 18 months) to germinate. If you can get seeds, that is.
So, come next spring, I'll try again...
