Bought Pistol on THR but never recieved!

July 20, 2009, 08:20 PM
I bought a pistol on THR on July 3rd. The seller received payment (usps m/o) on July 6th and it would be sent out that week. My FFL has not received the piece yet. The seller has turned off all communication with THR.

Another member bought another pistol from him the same day and has the same story.

Is this theft of a firearm? I paid for it and he hasn't sent it. He game me an email, but no response, and i have a phone number but no response.

Will ATF help? What shall we do? :banghead: :cuss:

I'd talk to the USPS, sounds like it could be mail fraud. With a USPS M/O involved they might look into it.

I think they have had this happen before

I believe if you paid by a United States Postal Money Order, it was cashed and you did not receive the goods the mo was sent for a FEDERAL crime has occurred.:barf:

I was always told that was so, and in the past I have bought firearms paying only by USPS money orders, and I have sold firearms accepting only USPS money orders for just that reason..

My understanding is that mail fraud is a Federal offense by itself, and if the transaction occurred between two persons living in different states that would constitute an even more serious violation of Federal laws..

Check with your Postmaster, then I would deal with whatever Federal Agency handles such fraud. (FBI, ATF?).

I could be wrong, but it should be easy enough for you to check out.

Luck to ya.

Two weeks: It's a bit early to holler "mail fraud", although that might well be the case. I've no clue as to how much time lag the USPS usually wants to see before they agree that a crime has been committed. I do suggest contacting them ASAP with what information you have about the seller.

There is very little that THR can do. You can post the details with the seller's name in the "Rate Transactions" forum. You can check other firearms websites to see if the seller is known there.

And feel free to PM me or any other moderator with further info, although I'm not sure what more advice we could give.

Closed, for now.
