I have a Performance Center Mod 66 SS. I was on another forum and noticed this guy had a mod 19 2" nickel for sale and it looks alot like my 66. My question is, what is the difference between the 19 and 66 besides the date of manufacture and the firing pin being on the hammer?

Thanks,
Joe

A model 66 is essentially a stainless-steel model 19. The model 19 was available in blue or nickel finish.

The firing pin being on the hammer just means it was an earlier generation (dash number) of the gun. S&W denotes it's "versions" using a "-X" after the model number...

The 19 and 66 are the same gun with the exception that the 19 is a carbon steel and the 66 is Stainless. The hammer mounted firing pin was changed to the free floating pin in about 1998 with the engineering change for the model 19 with the dash 8 and the model 66-5. Both are .357 mag in a K frame. Several year ago the K frame magnums were discontinued and the K frames are now .38 or .38+P. The 19 came in Blue or Nickel the 66 in a brushed stainless.

19 = Blue carbon steel
66 = Stainless steel.

19 hammer mounted firing pin stopped in 1998 at the 19-8.
66 hammer mounted firing pin stopped in 1998 at the 66-5.
