Hey guys I was looking for a little info on the winchester 1300 safety. My friend has one and the safety does not work properly. It doesnt click or stay in place it pretty much just flops back and forth but usually falls back on safe. Does anyone know what the problem may be or how to fix it? He said it looks like the trigger assembly is one peice and cannot be taken apart or if it could it would be a major job.

Two likely possibilities:
the hammer spring tail that acts as the safety detent spring is out of position due to improper assembly- or
the spring tail is broken off, but this is very unlikely.

A gunsmith can re-set the spring position without a lot of difficulty, so get a few bucks worth of professional help.
