Hi all, I have a couple of questions regarding my New Haven Mossberg 500AT.

I do not recall what the difference are between the 500AT and the 500, but I want to add a replacement slug barell. The Cabelas catelog states it will fit any 5 round 500.... I think mine is plugged, I can only get three in there... which makes sense since the guy I bought it from was a duck hunter, and here in Maine you have to plug the guns... but... will the slug barell fit?

Also... I usually go with Slug, 00, Slug... what will buckshot do in a rifled barell?

The next question I have is about camo finish... is the "shrink wrap" kits any good, or should I use tape? Is there another option? Either way, should I put the recoil pad on first, or after taping/wrapping the gun?

Thank you,

Leroy

The magazine tube is the same length, plugged or not. The barrel should fit as advertised.

Buckshot in a rifled barrel generally gives very wide patterns with a hole in the middle, and leads up the barrel considerably. Stick with sabot slugs only in a rifled barrel.

I've never camouflaged a gun in my life for deer hunting. Attention to motion, noise discipline, motion, wind direction, motion, and noise discipline are much more important than gooping up your gun. I seldom even bother to wear camouflage clothing for deer hunting any more- just plain work clothes in drab colors work ok for me.

Spend the money you would have used camo'ing your gun and buy ammo for sighting in and shooting practice. You'll be better off, and how well you shoot will make a lot more difference than how your gun looks.

Just some free advice from an oldphart southern whitetail hunter, take it FWIW...

Buckshot will spread at an incredible rate in a rifled barrel.

Awesome. Lee, I have learned to listen to you.

The setup I am looking at comes with a scope mounted, and I shoot a lot and I am an "ok" hunter.

Thanks Darknight... I love those guys....!
