Just got a Winchester catalog in the mail...

I might buy a 16 inch barrel Winchester lever action rifle. (Maybe my wife will let me keep it in "her" safe. No--scratch that. If I put it with her guns, it WILL become her rifle.) Anyway, if I go buy one, I don't intend to put a scope on it, but I do wonder how things work with a "top ejecting" rifle? How does a scope + a top ejecting rifle work?
Thanks,
KR

Winchester no longer kick the brass straight up. The angle eject allows the case to eject to the right , not hitting a scope. I have the Trapper in 357 Mag without a scope and a 94 in 30-30 with a scope. Byron

Side mount. I was considering putting one on my 94 years back, but never got around to it. Supposedly they work ok.

I put a Williams peep on my .357 Trapper. It's works very nicely and it's not as fragile as a scope. Great little trunk rifle.

IMO Marlins are better for scoping. Esp if you're a Lefty.

I've got a 16" .357 carbine. If you need a scope, you're too far away.
VERY nice little thing.

I definitely like Marlins better! My 1894C is without equal. The wood, the bluing, the "silk-smooth" action...I love it. The only thing I added was an "idiot scratch" . I'm going to buy a sling. The padded cordura would be more comfortable, but the leather sling looks better.

Put a nice peep on it. My 94 30-30 Win. is good to 100 yards. With my inabality to shoot strait, thats saying a lot.

However, my 1894C is the only rifle I own that I can clearly see the sights WITHOUT using my glasses. I wouldn't want to mess that up.

Put a tang sight on it. American backyard has the Marble's tang sight for under $90.
I also have the tang to help my aging eyes see the sights better.

Go for it, the Win model 94 is an AWSOME gun. I loved mine so much that I got a second one. It's the only gun I've got 2 of.
As for the scope, well this isn't the kind of rifle that was really meant to have a scope. Yes it can be done, and it will work fine. But the rifle was not designed with scopes in mind, and there are those of us out there that think the model 94 just plain looks funny if you put a scope on it :p

Not only looks funny, it throws off the whole handleing. The beauty of the 94 is a guy can carry it all day in the brush w/o a sling and have enough energy to hit something off hand a 60 yards.
