What type of wood is the stock of the Holland and Holland Royal Double Rifle?
http://www.hollandandholland.com/brochure/guns/royaldblrifle.htm
I am guessing its a walnut of some sort, french burl or something?
How is the wood finished to give that almost two tone appearance?
I just noticed it says its walnut and painstakingly oil finished. is that tung oil?

Traditionally French walnut, maybe Circassian or Turkish these days.
Big name oil finish is most likely linseed oil.

How much would one of those rifles set you back?

Very high grade English walnut.

The beautiful grain is already there.
Exactly what kind of oil finish they use is a closely guarded secret, but you can bet it is not just tung oil. All of the fine gun makers developed their own oils and methods.

If you have to ask....
Actually if you buy a new, off-the-shelf double rifle, it's only $171,900. If you want a bespoke (custom) model, it'll run you a bit more depending on the caliber. The website has a price list.
You can get a second hand one in .458 for a much more reasonable $75K.

Ugh .458 ?! why don't I just buy a splintered baseball bat. Everyone knows it needs to be a .505 gibbs minimum. ;)

Look at the New York store they usually have a few used guns in stock and they'll be a hair cheaper still out of most folks pricerange.
They've got a Dominion(oldy but still goodie) for the low price of $42,000
I've had some dealings with Nick and the guys and the NYC store in the past and they are pretty friendly to normal schmoes, especially for folks that sell $200k guns.

at the very minimum a 470 NE or 500 NE.
I wish I had the money to get an old 500 BPE double. Preferably an old Purdey.
of course, there are houses that my wife and I are looking at that probably are in the same range or LESS. :) lol

Good list of all sorts of firearms for sale- see http://www.gunsinternational.com/ for the category list.
Some of the Merkels can be had for about $10K, I could live with that (if I had $10K to spend on a double rifle). Darn this month's American Rifleman for getting me to looking at double rifles... again ( http://www.americanrifleman.com/Default.aspx?cid=24 ).
