The Rem 870 is a great Shotgun to build on, I had mine worked over by NightHawk Tactical (Custom) I decided on the 4 Shell Mesa Tactical shell holder to keep the weight down on the reciever for home defence and the Mesa Tactical adjustable pistol grip stock with the shock absorbtion feature.

I also went with the quick release sling swivels, one hooks to the Mesa Tac barrel clamp and the other to the GG&G quick release sling thing mounted to the stock so I can attach the sling when needed for field use or class use for training.

I also attached a Wilson Combat quad rail forend with XT rail covers and a TLR 1 Led Tactical weapons light at the 3 o clock position, this allows me to activate the light with my pointer finger to the momentary on position or the steady on position easily depending on which way I finger the switch at the back of the TLR 1 weapons light. This set up works great and keeps the weight down compaired to the SureFire light forend set up. The shotgun is well balanced set up this way for home defence or Tactical use.

Excellent. Now it's time to shoot the snot outta it, both to make sure that it's up to the task and to make sure that you can run it when blindfolded and half asleep. :)

(quote) wow i just go with a maglite and a mossberg

I chose the TRL 1 Led Weapons light over a Mag Light set up because it will hold up to the recoil of a shotgun over the long run, it's light, easy to take off, easy to manipulate and function on the forend of a shotgun, also I use the TRL 1 on my Glocks making it useful on other weapons :D

Mossbergs are a great shotguns and they perform well plus they have a pretty strong following among shotgunners.

I also have a Rem 870 20ga that the wife uses that has been recoated by Wilson Combat with Armour Tuff, Ghost Ring Sights were installed, Knoxx SpecOps pistol grip stock, Choate forend with the rail option and a TRL 1 Led Weapons light intalled on the forend the same way for her. The 20Ga is lighter and works great for the wife plus she really likes the TRL 1 forend light set up.

I like and preffer the Rem 870 pump over all.

Honestly, if there's even a single issue or hiccup you encounter I'd send it back. For that price it better be immcaulate. More than immaculate actually. Please post back here after you've put 500 or so through it and let us know how it's hangin'.

The wife shoots a Rem 870 20Ga set up allmost the same way except the sights and coating was done by Wilson Combat.. The 12Ga is a little heavy for her and has more recoil.

They did the works on it, Perma Kote finish, Ghost Ring sights + silver sotter install on front sight, Tritium front sight insert, action and polish work, drill tap & install picatinny rail on reciever, extended heavy duty mag tube, upgraded follower and spring, Mesa Tactical adjustable Leo stock with the ITT Ind hydraulic recoil buffer, Mesa Tactical 4 shell reciever sidesaddle. I also installed the Wilson Combat Quad rail forend with XT rail covers for my TRL 1 Led Weapons Light.

Wow.......I always considered the 870 and 500's as good, cheap shotguns. I couldn't imagine putting that kind of $ into one. On second thought ya I could imagine it but I don't think I could bring myself to do it. Thats a very nice weapon you have there. I hope you enjoy it and don't just leave it in the corner waiting for the worst to happen.

That's the route I would've went with too. But your 870 looks like it's one bad mofo.

It looks really nice and all. Sounds like you are really proud. You MUST get some rounds through it to see if it fits you and works for you efficiently. Practice makes perfect. I would be curious to see how it stacks up against a 18 or 20" plain jane 870 with a plain wood stock in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.

Nice looking gun.
If you've got the money, spend it.

I on the other hand do not, so...
I eventually plan to do a similar set up with the Pardner Protector I just got today.
Knoxx SpecOps, Max100's +2 extension, jury is still out on a type of light, and possibly ghost rail sights.
All for about $1,100 less, including the gun.

But very nice set up.

They smoothed out the original trigger group as part of the package.

Your right, but I did not want to build up a M-4, I wanted to build up a shotgun for my own specific reasons. Someday I may build up a M-4.

More than likely other than a little smoother trigger and action plus killer Ghost Ring Sights they will probably be the same over all on paper or in a defence situation.

The money I spent did not necessarily make it more effective, it just made it nice to feel and look at. I spent the money because I wanted to and for no other reason. The one thing I do like is the ceramic based coating, it's a lot better than the factory Remington glass beaded metal with the matt blued finish.

Bill, not to be a killjoy but........the $1600+ that this shotgun cost you did not get you the $70 Remington metal trigger group as found on the Police and Wingmaster models?????

I'd have a problem with a plastic trigger group on a $1600 plus shotgun that was reworked professionally.

Yes it started out as an 870 Tactical Camo Stock Express. I could not find an 870 anywhere locally when I decided to build this shotgun so I was just looking for any 870 that was new or used to send in to NightHawk or Wlison Comabat.

Both NightHawk and Wilson Combat said they could not get any new Rem 870 quickly causing there to be a long wait time for one of there shotgun builds. Both Companys were comparable in price and said if I could find or had a Rem 870 of my own to send them there would be about four week turn around on comparable shotgun build packages. I happen to find it in a small hole in the wall gun shop so I grabbed it up and sent it off.

The rest is history...

Both Wilson Combat and NightHawk recommened the polymer trigger guard on this paticular build so I went with there sugestions right or wrong. What the heck my glocks hold up and work great. I know some will have a diffrent opinion on this sugestion from both companys..

The same yes, but not really. The bottom line is any good dependable shotgun will do the job well. Just because I spent a grip of money on this set up does not mean it will do any better job on the BG than when it was just a plain old 870 express Tactical shotgun.

The forend light set up is all I would have put on it if I had decided to leave it a plain Rem 870 home deffence gun.
