Revolvers you wish they'd make?
Nightcrawler
October 24, 2003, 04:20 PM
What revolvers do you wish companies would make? Nothing unrealistic, but something they could make or add to their existing lineup? Any new models or new features you'd like to see from S&W, Colt, Taurus, or Ruger?
Here're mine:
Ruger
-A GP100 in 10mm, using S&W 610 moonclips.
-4.5" Redhawks in .44 and .45 Colt. Bring back the .41 Redhawk.
-5-shot GP100s in .44 Special, .41 Mag, and .45 Colt. 4" and 3" barrels, fixed and adjustable sights.
-5.5" Super Redhawks in .454 Casull, .480 Ruger, and .44 Magnum.
-5-Shot Super Redhawk in .500S&W
Colt
-If they haven't done so, enhance their large framed revovlers so they're at LEAST as strong as the improved N-Frames.
-Bring back the .41 and .45 Colt Anacondas!
-Start producing small carry revolvers again
More later...

1) Moonclips on everything from S&W--not so they're required, but so they're optional. Tom Knight could teach 'em how.
2) 4" 657

All I want, is a Revolver with the Strength of a Super Black Hawk, the Smoothness of a Colt Python and the Looks and the Ergonomics of an old Smith and Wesson 29. That's it!

and some day will have, a big horking SS DA revolver with a 6 inch barrel and a full accessory lug under the barrel, just like Vin deisel has in XXX. Some of those cool tranq shells would be pretty cool too.

I was gonna say, same gun as the Model 58, but chambered for .45 Colt. I kinda like your idea better - - tapered barrel, round butt. I wouldn't mind seeing it in stainless.
Even better would be the 1950 Military, with the shrouded ejector rod, in .45 Colt. In blue, it would be a really neat, very traditional-looking piece. In stainless, with round butt, it would be a supreme rough country piece.
AND - - I'd like to see Colt produce a three-inch Cobra, round butt, stainless, sturdy enough for 158 +P loads, without ejector shroud.
Best,
Johnny

S&W lightweight L frame
5 shot cylinder
Round butt
2.75" barrel
.45 acp and fullmoon clips
Fixed rear sight
"Classic" front sight
"Hammerless" Centenial
I sear. If they build it, I'd buy a bunch!!

I just got an email from Clements Custom Guns. They can convert a GP100 to 10mm for $500.00. Six shots, too. Requires custom moonclips, though, as the 610 moonclips are too big. The conversion comes with 15 of them, though.

Stereo Revolver as seen on Get Smart. I'm wondering if two break tops can be mended to one common grip frame. The problem is that you need two triggers or that the two triggers are going to have to be connected.

A 4" eight shot PC M27, and a 5 screw PC 3.5" while we're at it.

Did I say all these should be blued??? And have Trijicons up front too.
EDITED: CA legal too, or recall more and change the laws. Or both. :cuss:

ie. inbetween a regular 686 and the mountain gun version.

Not so far-fetched as might once have been believed. In this (http://www.unitedforums.com/forums/gunforums/cf/Forum7/HTML/000403.html) thread on another forum I provide a quote and link to the original statement earlier this year that suggests that the guy in charge over a Colt, referred to as "the General", is interested in the New Services.

A reliable Airweight 940. (942?). An airweight M65 3" RB. An airweight stainless K-frame .22lr w/ .22M conversion cylinder, available in 3, 4, 6.5 and 8.375 inch bbls. An N-frame Mountain Gun in .45C w/ conversion ACP cyl. hmmmmm... another vote for a .45ACP version of the 296, a big Centennial. <fingers drumming...> A stainless M43 (22 Kit gun, lightweight).... Have to give this more thought. Hope this thread has legs...

I would like to see Smith and Wesson build a 6 shot 4" N-Frame .357 Magnum just like the old Model 28 Highway Patrolman, except in Stainless.
All that extra steel gives you a heck of a lot of confidence when doing load development or when carrying around very stout .357 Magnum loads.
I also wish that ALL the manufacturers would go back to leaf springs in DA revolvers instead of coil springs. I don't think there's a revolver out there with a coil spring that can match the smooth pull of a leaf spring without major gunsmithing.

Like Joe Hatley and M58 said, 3" 5-shot L-frame .41 mag. I'd even settle for a 3.3" bl. :p
I'd love to see an N-frame 5-shot .454/.45 Colt, 5" bl.
I wish Ruger would make a .45 Colt or .41 Mag Blackhawk or Vacquero with a swing-out cylinder instead of a loading gate. I'd get one in 3.5" and use it for daily carry! :)

L-frame 696 .44 Special in a 4" Mountain Gun configuration....
Ditto above in .41 Magnum....
J-frame M63 .22LR with a 3" bbl. and a partridge(or pinned-in) front sight...
K-frame M617 .22LR in a 4" MG configuration...

SBH in 4&3/4" with fluted wheel and alloy grip-frame...

New Service 1917 Army repro from Colt would be cool, in stainless, though, but avilable with a black finish.. say with two cylinders 45 acp AND 45 Colt. better yet 44 magnum.
Still, a .357 version would be very nice too.
Would still like to see the DS and Magnum Carry back in the line up, though I've already got a Magnum Carry.
From SW I'd like 6 shot 2 inch unported 45acp revolver. No good reason, just think it would be cool.
Still think Uberti/Pietta/etc. could make a nice repro 1878 New Frontier or 1877 Lightning/Thunderer DA revolver. 38 special and .45 Colt (since no one shoots the .41 Colt anymore) Uberti has made some very NICE replicas, so why not these too?

Okay, some more:
Smith & Wesson
First, I'd like to see runs of revolvers without the internal locks that allow them to be sold in places like NJ and CA. They do make some without the locks still, I've heard.
As for specific models:
-4" Scandium N-Frames, verymuch like the 329PD, but in .45 Colt, .45ACP, .41 Magnum, 10mm, and .357 Magnum. (The .357 could be a seven or eight shot, even.)
-Bring back the big bore, 5-shot L-framed guns with 2 and 3 inch barrels. .44 Special, of course, but also .45ACP, .45 Colt, and .41 Magnum.
-Start making blued guns again. People like that stuff.

GP100 in 9mm, 3" full lug barrel.
S & W Model 66 in 9mm, same barrel as above
and set up for moon clips of course.
And I'd like to see S & W 625 in 3" configuration again, at sorta reasonable price:rolleyes:
Also, I second Nightcrawler's wishes for blued guns and the big bore Scandiums!
