I have several guns I won't to sell but I am afraid the gun dealers have dropped what they will pay way down because people need money.
Does anyone have any thoughts or acutual knowledge of the business?

Thanks

First of all, I have not met a gun dealer that will pay half of what a gun is worth. You are much better off selling it to a private party. Use the thrifty nickel if you want to sell locally or the trade area on this website is a good place to try.

So. if I sell to private parties do I need to tell them that we must go to a gun dealer to get them out of my name in the newspaper ad?

You need to check your local and State laws before you sell a gun privately.

Ditto to CCR. If you can't sell privately like in Illinois I believe, you could find yourselves in a heap of trouble. Some states also require that you keep a copy of a contract of sale and some don't so be sure to check up if that is a requirement. Whenever guns are in the picture, you must always dot your 'I's and cross your 'T's, otherwise you'll get a visit from the powers that be and that is not something any of us want.

Again, make sure you are abiding by the law.

In most states, they are not in your "name" anyway. Private sales occur all the time, and unless you are shipping the gun, you do not need to involve a dealer. That is, of course, depending on what state you live in. Let us know and we can help you more.
