Well I always said I wouldn't do it....but i did. Broke down and got a glock yesterday. Had to have a .45 so I decided to go with the slimline. I am very impressed to say the least and this is going to be a keeper. Its nice to have a gun that you dont worry about the finish so much. I love my SA 1911 but i tend to baby it too much to keep it looking good. I will be carrying the G36 in an ankle holster most of the time when I am wearing work clothes.

I second the good gun vote!!
I have become more attached to my SA 1911 these days, so the Glock mainly stays in the safe.

I too have owned a G36. I consider it almost perfect as an IWB carry gun for me. I did find it a little large for ankle carry, but then again maybe ankle carry isn't for me.

I've had a few Glocks over the years...a 23, 17 & 21. As Glocks go, my 36 seems to be just right!

My G27 feels just right. I always thought the "snappy recoil" so many people tagged the 27 with wasn't bad at all. I shot it for years...then I bought a Hogue "Hand-All" just to see how it felt. Well, it worked OK...but I tried to slip it off and found that the "ol' Arthor" in my fingers made it more of a chore than I wanted. So, the Hand-All is still there. I think the key to my .40's recoil being mild is the fat grips. Do you think the "thin grips" on the G36 would be OK for a man with arthritis in his fingers and hands? I'm thinkin' the .45's recoil + the thin grips might make me see some stars I don't want to see. Not to hijack the post, but I'd appreciate some opinions re: that because I can get a good deal on a new G36.

Thanks,
KR

I've owned both a G27 and a G36 but not at the same time. Kinda hard to compare the recoil. It also depends a lot on what ammo you use. I'd guess that for me the G36 had no worse recoil than the G27.

You could fatten the G36 grip a little with a Hogue Hand-all or even put a layer or two of bicycle inner tube under the Hand-all. Your condition may cause you to feel discomfort where almost no one else does, so it's hard to tell. It would be great if you could shoot a G36 somewhere.

KR, I think that you would indeed find that the thinner grips on the G36 would hurt your hand more than the fatter grips on the G27. I've fired a G36 alongside a G30, and found that after a few magazines from the G36, my hand was noticeably sore - whereas firing multiple magazines from the G30 was no problem. Also, I own a G27, and have had no problems with pain from the fat, abbreviated grip (although I don't shoot more than a couple of magazines at a time out of it - I suspect extended use might drive the "hump" into my palm a bit too much for comfort! :D ).

I appreciate your opinions...thanks.
I've shot my G27 with 135 grainers for extended range sessions with no problems at all. On the other hand one cold, rainy day at Ft. Knox (this is a little embarrassing), as an afterthought I took my Jetfire out of my pocket and the tiny recoil popped my knuckles. <Getting older is NOT for sissies>
