I'm thinking I'm gonna store this oil and cosmoline soaked hunka whatever wood, and stick the action in something else. Will eventually probably turn the action into a .35 Whelen or a 7/08, so a sporter-type stock is the target. Can anyone make any suggestions as to where to look?

Yup....check with Boyds. I picked up an unfinished Sprtsman Ria walnut stock for abot $50. I'll have a little elbow grease into it, but I think I'll be happy. Check 'em out!

Remember to get one designed for the M-48. K-98, let alone commercial Mauser stocks, will not fit right because the M-48 uses a different sized action.

Boyds makes sporter stocks specifically for the Yugo M48s.

They make a good product and I put one of their 1903A3 stocks on my fathers rifle after the stock and fore-end cracked.
