Federal Fusion .223 claims vs results

I picked up a box of Fusion 62 grn. rounds in .223, because the price was right and I needed some ammo. I looked on the back of the box and noticed they made the same claims about being incredible for deer as the boxes for fusion in larger calibers made. Curious but cautious, I want to find out how they actually perform. I emailed Federal's Fusion folks and they said "if you do your job they will work" (paraphrased of course). So, since I'm getting nowhere with them, someone please tell me if you have used them (in .223) on deer or deer sized game, and if so, how they worked.
Let's not start another tinkling contest about general use of .223 on deer... please limit posts to that particular round (federal fusion in .223).

Thanks folks.

I know nothing about their claims for .223, but I do know that family members have had less than stellar results with larger caliber Fusions on deer. I personally feel a .223 is too light for deer anyways.

being a fairly new introduction I doubt you'll get many reports for a few years.

But at any rate welcome to THR

I have been using 165 grain .308 fusion for 3 years now and had great success. Three down now in 4 shots, but the fourth was totally unnecessary as all it did was nearly take the leg off. In my target M1A it is the most accurate factory load I have tested yet. I have nothing but praise for it now, and I plan to buy a few thousand rounds for that gun when I can scrape a few grand together and find a deal on bulk. (If anyone knows of one please let me know)

I am considering trying a box of .223 fusion but with the current prices on that stuff I may stay away. I don't hunt with .223, so I can't help you there.

I'm keeping a ten rounds of it in a twenty round mag that stays in the truck just in case I get stuck somewhere for weeks and decide I need to eat. It did well on paper, but until I hear more feedback from people who actually took a deer with it (none so far) I am going to stay with other rounds for hunting. (308 and 300WSM, Can't blame the bullets if one doesn't drop)

I've taken about 15 deer with the fusion bullet - .308, 150 grain.

All but one exited. The bullet that didn't had extreme penetration (20+") on a quartering toward shot. Expansion was excellent as was weight retention (90% plus based on an educated guess).

This load shoot great (average a little over 1" after 20+ 3 shot groups), and I have no plans to shoot anything different.
