Wondering if anyone had any experience with this rifle. I like it because it takes standard m-16 mags which I have several from when I was in the military.
Any thoughts.
I'm sure someone is going to say to get an AR-15 but I don't have the cash and will not have the cash for a long time. Don't bother mentioning it. It's like telling me to go buy a tank. I just don't have the money.

I don't have one, but you might want to do some reading on the Kel-Tec fan forums. Lots of info there, and a whole sub-forum for just that gun alone.

Last I posted about my SU I got blasted as an "internet person" by a member...an "internet person" being an entity that comes out of the electronic dimension to purposely give false and confusing information to innocent non-internet persons...:fire: So beware of what I say here....
Here's the post I made in that other thread
If you want an SU-16 you can buy with confidence. At first, especially if you are used to handling ARs and high end metal weapons. The light weight and slimness of the SU is a bit "iiffy" feeling...also Kel-Tec does not fuss over the finish of their weapons too much, every one I've owned or handled looks rough. Don't let that dissuade you..its cosmetic only.
The SU will win you over once you start using it, simple, clean and reliable operation, great ergos, quick handling and tons of innovation. If you ever do have a problem, Kel-Tec, has EXCELLENT customer service and a lifetime warranty(that they actually honor). Nice community of Kel-Tec owners too... http://www.ktog.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl
tons of info here if you're interested.

You weren't "blasted" the other guy said "go to the store and make your own decision." He also added don't fall for Internet people and their choices.
That is what I say, go to a store check out the gun.
I almost bought one because while living in downtown city it is hard to carry a gun out of the house and to the range, the folding option makes for easy carry.
The couple I saw while plastic and seemingly flimsy, they were well made and would have functioned well.

OBTW Mike you even said this
Whether I liked it or not, I wouldn't have bought it from him anyway. Shoot it and you'll typically know whether it is right for you right away.

I like the SU-16, looks like a cool utilitarian gun.
But I noticed on the Kel Tec website FAQ that their guns have an expected lifespan of "6000 rounds or more".
6000 rounds doesnt seem like a whole lot, especially to someone who shoots often. Hypothetically...If you were to wear the gun out in a few years, would they fix or replace it for free? Or would this be "ordinary wear and tear" that they wouldnt want to pay for...

I assume they are talking about the barrel.

I do not own one. Let's just make that clear first. I have only seen one in action in person. It was a "B" model, which has the metal front sight. The owner seemed generally satisfied and claimed that AR snobs get real quite after he starts shooting.
The guys on KTOG swear by them. A year ago you could find a SU-16 for under $500, making it a cheaper alternative to an AR-15 than the Mini-14. Now, just good luck on finding them.
KTOG Members will tell you that Kel-Tec's service is absolutely the best in the industry. Whether a pistol or a rifle, Kel-Tec does a good job replacing parts fast. They do have a life-time warranty and apparently if your barrel wears out, they will replace it.
Just go and ask around the KTOG.org forums. Every owner there gets starry eyes when you ask about Kel-Tec products.

I had a KelTec Sub-2000 for Glock mags and i am just not really into the two plastic halves being screwed together with wood screws but at the same time it was reliable and accurate so i cant complain about the function.
I kinda like the looks of the 16 but don't know if i will be able to get over the flimsy feeling. I wish they were a better polymer like Glocks. I want one as a truck gun/beater but i cant justify $500 for one when you can get a brand new Olympic Arms Plinker model AR for the same price.

its not bad for a 500$ rifle that takes AR15 mags
but for 700$ you can buy a AR15
for 350$ .223 Saiga is more accurate than both the SU16 and mini14
SU16 480$ cheapest i found mini14 700$
you can buy a stripped lower for 99$ parts kit for 75$ buttstock buffertube 35$
complete upper for 465$ DPMS
great thing about an ar15 you can upgrade later

I have two, a B and a CA. Like the CA better. If you get one I recommend you throw the factory mags away and get some good AR mags, and replace the factory extractor with a Bushmaster unit (it's easy to do).

I have one and really enjoy it. I think it is a little more fun to shoot then my Mini, and has comparable recoil. The AR is obviously a more accurate platform, but the SU is better then the factory mini.
It folds up and is very lightweight. If I lived in a free state I'd have an AR with a couple different uppers, but in Calif if you aren't willing to do the OLL (off list lower) thing you are stuck with the Mini or the SU.
There are a lot of people who proclaim them "plastic crap" without have fired a single round through one. They are polarizing for some odd reason. I wouldn't compare a $500 SU to a $1000 AR - that is silly.

"Better polymer"
I know what you mean Adam, the phrase just strikes me as a weird concept, like "Good Kaopectate".

As per the other thread, I have a SU-16C "charlie". I bought it because it was $470 and the cheapest AR in my area was $900. It also passed the Cook County Ill assault weapons ban list- the AR did not. I am really pleased with the gun. I have shot 4K rounds with no signs of wear. It will shoot about 2MOA. It is a very light weight rifle for plinking, informal target, and hunting. It is not a battle rifle, but if the SHTF it would come in VERY handy, with a weight under 5 lbs,a folded length under 25", and a 30 round GI mag in the well. Kel-Tec Guarantees the SU for 6K rounds not as an absolute (they offer lifetime warranty anyway) but to illustrate the rifle is durable. Many posters on KTOG have round counts over 10K. ;)

I've got an A and a C model, both have been very reliable although I only have a couple of thousand rounds through each. I have used the C model in a couple of 3 gun events and it's accurate enough for that. My A model is only a 2.3-3" gun at 100 yards with most ammo, but feed it the Black Hills 52 gr. H load and all of a sudden it's a 1.5" gun. The warranty does indeed include barrel replacement if it wears out.

I have also had a couple of there small pistols and Keltec list a round count for all of there guns at which point they will gladly rebuild or replace it for free if there are ANY problems. Even normal wear and tear items most the time.

I have yet been able to find somewhere that sells it in Manitoba Canada, or if they are non-restricted here, or even imported.
Where in the USA to AR's go for $350??? Mini-14s are about $800 here, and go up. Even Soviet guns (vz 58) start around $700, though they come with 4 mags and bayonnet.
