Whats the best bang for the buck? Trying to stay on the cheaper side. It also needs to have an option for optics.

If you are trying to save money, Mossberg makes some slug barrels for the 870. I haven't used them, but they seem to be a good deal and people seem to like them.

Optics, well then your only factory option would be a cantilever barrel. The remainder slug barrels use open sights. You could have your receiver drilled and tapped.

Another option would be go buy a Mossberg 500 combo with the slug barrel. It doesn't cost that much more than a new Remington barrel and you have 2 shotguns which isn't bad thing right?....
