Davenport police officers will soon have a new tactic to help keep guns off of our streets. Thanks to some big bucks from the Federal Government. The Davenport police department has just been awarded a $90,000 grant.

At a news conference Friday morning officers said the money will be used to launch a unique program to reduce gun violence.

Last year 14 kids were arrested on gun related crimes, including the highly publicized drive-by shooting that killed 9-year old Deanna Shipp.

This new program will focus on educating young at-risk teens over the next two years.

Scott County Attorney, Bill Davis, said, "It's targeted specifically at 30-50 kids, but it will also touch their family, their friends, so it will impact everyone in the community."

This grant money is coming form the United States Justice Department and from Project Safe Neighborhoods.

A serious mis-application of financial resources.
