I was just offered a Speed 6 in 9mm. It is blue and has a 3" barrel. What is the going price for this pistol. It is in excellent condition with a little wear around the edges.
Thanks.

A lot! These sell for much more than the .357 chamberings. I think blued goes for less than the SS but I have seen the SS with the 3" bbl sell for around $400. Sometimes people tell me about a good deal they got on one ($200 or so) but when both parties know the value, it ends up in the $400 range.

So $250 is a pretty good deal for one that is in very good condition with little wear around the edges. I was thinking about converting this pistol into 38 super. I don't think it would be to hard. I can use the same moon clips.
Thanks

$250 sounds good but I have never seen a blued one sell so I don't know if they sell for more or less than a SS one. My guess is they go for less as most Rugers sell for more if they are SS. I would pay $250 for one if I could ever find one.:banghead:

I picked up this one new in the box, unfired about a year ago. I gave $325.

I added the Eagle Secret Service grips later. They are fun guns and super strong.

That looks almost exactly like the one that I saw. Those grips are very nice looking. I think I will be getting it the first chance I get enough money gathered up next week. I already have a 3" SP101 in 9mm. I thought that this would make a good addition to my collection of shooters.
Thanks

Last one I bought was 199$ at a gun show. YMMV.

I paid much less, but that was around '96 and the owner (1) knew me for years and (2) liked me.
Consider that the price is also "regional" as some places have higher income brackets than others. Thus, used guns go for more (methinks) in those places than say, the Midwest. So, for my area, I would expect to pay $250 or so for it.

Why convert to .38 Super?
It will not gain much if any power vs 9mm +P+ and the chamber specs are NOT the same. Super brass will likely be bulged.

I have always wanted a 38 super revolver and the platform looked like it was a good one to convert to. I am curious to why the 38 super brass would bulge if it was fired in the conversion? To my understanding 38 super is approx. the same diameter as a 9x19mm para.(.355 vs. .356 38super). The only difference is the length in the casing (19mm vs. 21mm). To my knowledge the 38 super is not a compressed load therefore it should not compromise the strength of the case. It is almost no different than from 38spl. to 357mag. I may be wrong. But I thought I had a pretty good grasp on these 2 calibers. Chime in if my thought process is flawed though.
Thanks

Bullet diameter is not what governs, case and chamber dimensions are what count. (And by the way, .38 Super is 23 mm long, not 21. The 9x21 is an entirely separate cartridge.)
.38 Super is a straight case, .384" all the way.
9mm P is a tapered case, .391" at the head.
A Super reamer will clean up the mouth area and extend the chamber but the breech end will be .007" oversize. Now that is not enough to burst a case but it will bulge by that much.
I don't say it can't be made to work, but it won't be RIGHT.
But it's your gun and your money.

Okay, that makes sense. I was kind of shooting from the hip on the case lengths as I don't have my books in front of me. It has been awhile since I really took a look at the two cases. I think I will take everybody's advise and leave it like it is and just have fun shooting.
By the way I pick it up Wed.
Thanks to all.

Good Choice! In the spirit of adventureism: why not ream to 9x23? SUPER balistic gain and case has same taper and external dia. as 9x19. The clips should hold head space of 9x19 ammo just fine AND the ruger speed six frame and metalurgy should handle the PSI range just fine.
