Tonight I went to my dads with 4 empty shells, and 3 185 g LSWC bullets to tweak the 4 turret lee press I have. We set it up, and the primer came out fine, and I put it back in just to learn how to do all this. Then the case went up to push the powder out(I had no powder in it, this is all a dry run to make sure its all perfect)
Then came the bullet seating die. Well, I followed the directions from lee but apparently I screwed the adjuster way too low and the bullet went halfway into the case when I pulled it out. I felt kinda dumb, and my dad was like "***" but it was the first one so I tweaked it some and tested the other 2 bullets.
Well, the first one was at 1.266, and I left that alone but the head was not flush with the case. Then I adjusted it some more and the next one was at 1.2345 and it was flush. Well, the 1.266 did not chamber into my Ruger P345 correctly because the bullet was not flush with the case. The other one did though, and I believe that this one was at 1.220-1.229- somewhere in that range. So, I took the one that needed adjusting, and ran it through the press until it was just right. Both fed through the magazine and though the gun just fine.
My Golden Sabers from Remington's Factory said it was about 1.234-1.236 around there. So I think I did ok.
Just thought I would share, but I do have a question. How much should I mess with the factory crimp die if at all?
