Topgun
October 25, 2003, 04:51 PM
I have had the gun since new and it was always "good" but not spectacular. Groups same size as a nice OLDER pre Bangor Punta K-22.
Then I posted a problem on Jim Spacek's High Standard site.
AND.........discovered............. Jim Barta............
jbarta@adelphia.net
GOOD.....smith! I always THOUGHT it was an optical illusion, but the muzzle always looked off-square to me. It WAS! Jim chamfered the muzzle and changed out my recoil spring.
VERY fast service. Sent Monday....had back on Saturday. Priority mail both ways and REASONABLE price.
Bullet holes TOUCH at 25 yards now. (From sandbag rest)
....DID YOU KNOW ????...........That High Standards from the earlier years were NOT heat treated? Nope. Just milled from steel as it came from the bar stock. And regardless of what the manual says........HIGH SPEED .22's....take their toll. Use STANDARD velocity.
OR...........change the spring to the Wolff 7# for the HV
Mine sports the 6# for std velocity as they are more accurate.
My aged spring was down to 4# and that was what had been peening the slide on the slide stop. Also.......never use the slide release to release the slide. Mine was peened there also. Designed to have slide pulled back and released. I knew that but had forgotten and it resulted in the slide getting boogered a bit. Jim also corrected that.
So.........if you want any work done on High Standard, shoot an email to Jim.
He says he also does 1911 work. If it's of the same quality, he would be a good man to know.
VERY pleased with my Trophy now. After all I dumped a 41 Smith from torquing and a lousy trigger.
