Registering at Bass Pro?

I just did something a little strange (for me). After having received a wedding invitation for an old college friend of mine who is getting married (today), I went to Dillards and used the gift registry computer to pick a gift from those listed as wanted by the couple, order it, and have it automatically wrapped and mailed to the couple. Convenient if nothing else. I paid $25.00 for something called a "Flute" - not sure why they need 12 of them - maybe they're starting a band. I'll have to ask him how practice is going for them on their new instruments. In any event, I can't help but think what an incredible waste of resources the gifts listed there are, for the money. So, if I'm married, I'm going to look to get registered at Bass Pro, Cabela's, or some such - do they also have gift registrys? (obviously, I'll need to find the right gal first - may as well cure cancer while I'm at it).

Flute, is something you drink champagne out of. :D
I thought mason jars were fine....but nooo we had to have 12 also...and I didn't drink.

OK, I did the $10K+ wedding all the bells and whistles once. Some of that stuff is sentimental and all. I mean I was the whom had to have the Mikasa crystal coffee mugs. But I brought back 25# of Blue Mountain coffee from Jamacia too. :) Its just part of the sharing , building a life dealie.

We also registered at the Hardware store, the local Mom&POP one. Now this is a real handy and smart place to register, See I used up the rest of the in store credit by buying ammo, primers, and used shotgun. Umm she didn't realize that the store had gun stuff. I did :D Who do you think suggested this idea in the first place? Drink my high dollar coffee out of high dollar mugs and reload...I ain't stupid.

Now 2nd time around...I, we,us...did the JP deal...yep this is the way to go. Didn't register per se, just told folks what we wanted. I mean she had her stuff, I had my stuff. ( her shower curtain fru fru flowers, mine has ducks) get it...we needed "our stuff".

We also got personal stuff, hers came in the form of a pc of family furniture she wanted, would inherit anyway...the guys bought me a gift cert for ammo supplies.

Me, I've gone to giving money...let the couple get what they want. Last monies I gave went toward a Mec Reloader for the two to fight over...both clayshooters.

If they don't, they should: always make it easy for customers and prospects.

I think I realized what "flute" meant.
However, I've no idea why they're called that. It's a GLASS for chrissakes! We've got 12 or 15 of the things. In more than 25 years, I've NEVER drank from the things. They look like they're so thin they'd break if I stared at them too long.<shrug> "Flutes" are just one of those things she wanted.<shrug again> She also want's her firearms to be "pretty".<shrug, for the 3rd time>

Yeah, getting a registry at Galyans or Cabelas would be good. Unfortunately, usually odds are that the other half of the couple won't go for it, eh?

Kentucky, there are basically as many types glasses as there are types of wine, and a true sommelier wouldn't be caught dead drinking Pinot Noir from a Cabernet glass. But I don't think anybody here even pretends to be a sommelier. Actually, flutes are pretty useless for champagne; the best champagne glass is the very wide one with the rounded bowl. I think I know far too much about booze for someone who can't legally drink it.

I don't know about BassPro or Cabellas, But MidwayUSA lets you establish a wish list that can be made viewable to others. :D Works out pretty good too. I used it a my Christmas wish list last year.

Every time we have a dinner party I stand out like a sore thumb drinking from my favorite glass while everyone else is drinking from crystal.

It’s a glass jar from some soup. It’s big and holds lots of liquid.

I guess I'm not Emily Post enough.

When my daughter got married a couple of years back she registered at Macys, Burdine, Sacs and just for me registered at the local gun shop.

She had my son in law pick out four different guns as a gift to choose from me to him. I let the wife pick out the foo foo gifts while I wrote checks to all the vendors.

Funny thing is during their dating I turned my son in law onto shooting.
His mother and step dad are educators and were horrified at what I have done.
I never miss an opportunity to stick a thorn in her side everytime the families get together.

Always talking about guns and shooting. Its a sure way to get her to leave my house asap.
Liberals in the family are fun!:D

I'm 53...married and "settled in". Don't expect to be changing. However, three of my sons friends have done a "Tool Time" party for the groom...with a little hunting/shooting stuff thrown in for the gun guy of the group. I thought it was a perfect way for the guys to send a buddy off into the realm of husbands everywhere...you know, the never ending honey-do list. :D

t driver. Sounds good (the Midway wish list), especially since Bass Pro is on the anti-assault weapon bandwagon and I'll probably be bocotting them (haven't decided for sure yet), and also since not everyone has a Bass Pro in their area - everyone has a computer (almost) and can make it to www.midwayusa.com . :)

Well done, FeedtheHogs!!

Hey, I know the guy that runs the gun counter at the new Bass Pro in OKC, but then again you do too. Go talk to Mark when you decide to get married and he can fix you up.
