I want to buy a scope for my Model 41 S&W. I currently have an Ultra Dot L/T. It is not so good in low light (indoor range). The Dot is not sharp...produces a fuzzy/blurry picture. Outdoors is fine.
I want a Red Dot that is sharp indoors. Looking to spend less than $300 if possible. Tell me about your scope. Thanks

I have a simple on/off ultra dot that i took off and put back in its box ,junk. Same problems as you it would seem at our indoor ramge. Never could bring myself to spend as much money as some do on a dot and after useing a old cheap red dot on a 357 for 20+years i went an bought a 30mm simmons all though sold under other names too. It has a rheostat and in the low settings is very sharp and can still be turn up for bright mid day shooting out side. I would be assamed to say how little i payed. It is mounted on a ruger target 22 pistol.

I reserve the optics for my long guns. Its just a personal preferance. Optics on a handgun drive me bannanas. To each his own. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I'm just trying something different. The scope mounts & dismounts in a minute. The iron sights are still available.

I hunt with pistols, own 3 scopes. I have a tasco pro point 30mm scope on a .30-30 Contender barrel that has done the job for nearly 2 decades. I have a 2x Dan Wesson branded scope I bought used at a gun show on my 10" .22 match barrel for the Contender. That barrel is so accurate, iron sights just do not do it justice. I have a BSA LER scope on a Ruger Mk2. I bought it that way, got the rear sight with it thinkin' I'd probably take the scope off and use it on something else, but the gun is so accurate (1" at 50 yards) that I kept it on. It's uber fast on those falling plates at 25 yards, too, allows me to do my Rob Leatham impression to wow my friends. :D I carry it in a UM's shoulder rig, same one I use for the Contender, and it's a heckuva squirrel gun. I LIKE optics on hunting handguns. Not all handguns are for concealed carry, ya know. :D All my scopes are 2x. I don't need any more than 2x. I can, off the bench, put 5 shots into 3" at 200 yards with that .30-30 barrel and a 2x scope. I couldn't do that with iron sights.

Scotz One day you will have trouble see the news paper and then the gun sites and next thing to buy for that handgun will be a scope of some sort. Or custom glasses

I did order a Match Dot from UltraDot West. I will give my 2 cents this weekend.

Got it today. Their shipping service is fast.
My initial impressions....I only used it for a hour.
It is well constructed. Nice kit. Has an extension, Polaroid Filter, protective end caps, a decent set of rings. The Red Dot is still fuzzy/blurred....(same as my L/T) in low light. In bright light it is crisp & sharp. The scope loosened up a few times. Maybe it wasn't tight enough from the beginning. I did not want to over tighten it. The dot intensity is adjustable. There are 4 Dot sizes starting with 2. The scope is substantially heavier than the L/T. It zeroed right in. A few clicks up & over and I was hitting ok for an old blind guy that can't hold a pistol steady every shot.
I'm going back to the range this weekend. To be continued.
