Is 4756 powder good for handgun rounds and is a charge of 11 a good .38 special load? thanks.

SR-4756 will work.
11.0 grains will work so well it will blow your gun up the first shot!
Since you failed to mention a bullet weight, I have no idea of a safe charge.
But 11.0 grains is about double anything listed with any bullet weight in .38 Special.
Suggest you get a reloading manual like the Lyman #49 or something.
Or at least look at the powder manufactures website data.

4756 is a good pistol powder but I don't know that 11 grains is a wise charge. I don't think I even use that much in my 44 special. I have to agree with RC, get the lyman manual start low for what ever bullet you use and work up from there.
My question is: Are people so poor or so lazy they can't or won't buy manuals any more? I must have at least five, and I use them.

I don't reload, never have. I'm just asking because of some reloads I was given when I bought some guns at an estate sale. They list 4756 powder, charge of 11, bullett weight of 125 gr. It doesn't look like I should be shooting them then. That's why I was asking. Thanks.

Dang!!!!!
11.0 grains is 3.2 grains over a max load with a 125 grain JHP in a .357 Magnum!!!!
No wonder it was an Estate Sale!
He probably shot one of them in a .38 Spl.!
