Hi folks. Is steel-cased Wolf ammo fine to use on a regular basis in a Makarov? I know it is hard on some guns but I assume that the Makorov was designed to be used with steel-cased ammo. Am I right? Thanks for any info.

I have used Wolf ammo in my Mak quite a bit with no problem. Never any failures. (Actually, no ammo has ever failed in my Mak, after the first 50 rounds or so. Love that gun.)

From what I know, Maks are designed to handle eastern bloc milspec ammo, which is usually steel cased, lacquered. If any gun can handle it, the Mak can.

Cheers.

Wolf quality is kinda spotty.
Use Barnaul JHPs in your Mak and you'll never have any trouble.

My experience with Wolf in my Makarov is that its real dirty and not as accurate as other brands.

Barnaul and PS Grand have been the best ammo I've used (and you can get the Barnaul in JHP if you like). The Barnaul is steel cased like Wolf, but the PS Grand is brass cased (less wear on the extractor and if you reload its a must).

Go to www.dansammo.com to get all the Barnaul and PS Grand you need ... at prices that are generaly better then buying Wolf localy (YMMV).

95% of the rounds I've put thur my Mak have been my own handloads. But the few boxes of wolf I have fired seemed to be OK...

...PS Grand + S&B are a little cleaner

...Barnaul rocks (especially JHP)

All are available for outstanding prices on-line which is one of the reasons that Mak's are so very popular.

Good luck!

my new bulgie eats anything that i can fit in that 9x18 mag.if your worried about the recoil damaging the frame..get the 19lb recoil spring from wolff(makarov.com has them)its a snap replacing the spring.the mak should be able to take it,theyre kinda like a german tiger tank.i bought a bunch of the silverbear ammo, its 120 grains, nickel plated cases and the hp cavity seems a bit large but it fed them ok,i wasnt sure after looking at them if theyd feed but they did..the wolf i tried was just ball ammo, worked fine also.the silverbear seemed to be hotter.getting the barnaul stuff soon.

As far as my experience, others I know and what Ive read ALOT of online.
Silver Bear isnt what I would consider carrying. The QC of the ammo sucks, the ES of it is bad...just not quality ammo. Its the only ammo Ive ever used that my CZ's didnt like and the 9mm overexpanded and locked my old S&W slide to the frame....:D
Barnaul is stellar ammo. Cheap, fast, expands like crazy.....the Hollow Point cavity reminds me of a mini "Flying Ashtray" Speer. Wolff is good but more money than the Barnaul around here...so Im stocking up on it.
